Because "The Essential Bob Dylan" (2000) has been added to the bobdylan.com Albums Page, all items containing this year's new song Things Have Changed are no longer rarities, and have been moved to the corresponding pages in International Stereo Releases. Promotional Items (Albums and Singles) are now here. All Honourable Mentions are now here.
If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

The 2-track CD-R also contains:
R-0450 Things Have Changed - radio edit, 3:37 compared to album version at 5:10
The one-track CD-R is silver - the colours are refractions from the copier. This is the same as Gerd Rundel's US test pressing (first version) on the 2000s International Singles page. The 2-track CD-R comes in a generic card sleeve with an insert listing the contents. The rear of the card sleeve is plain yellow apart from the URL "www.sonymusic.com.au". Gerd Rundel's copy has the insert glued onto the rear of the card sleeve. Thanks to Hans Seegers for the information that the 2-track CD-R has the catalogue number COL 87.

Both have the catalogue number SAMPCS 6693 but the disc is a Sony Music CD-R. John Gaylor's identical disc appears to come in a card sleeve with the same front and rear as Gerd Rundel's flyer.
Thanks to John Gaylor and Gerd Rundel for information and scans.
Cruzados - " Unreleased Early Recordings" - privately produced
CD: (no catalogue number) (USA), Feb 2000:
Although this CD is not an "official" CD in the sense that it was
not issued by a record company, it is also not a bootleg as some have
reported. The CD was privately produced by the band themselves
and can only be obtained from the Cruzados' official web-site
R-0452 Rising Sun (Hufsteter/Larriva/Marsico/Quintana) - Bob plays harmonica for the
Cruzados (then the Plugz), Cherokee Studios, Hollywood, CA, 1983 (4:40) A re-recorded version of this song without Bob was released on the first Cruzados album just called Cruzados (Arista ARCD 8383 (CD)/AC 8-8383 (LP), 1985). Peter Oudejans has a CD-R variant with different artwork. Bob is credited on the rear insert. R-0452 was included on the BMG Germany 2CD compilation May Your Song Always Be Sung: The Songs Of Bob Dylan Vol. 3, see 2003. It also appears on the 2007 US Bird Song Records soundtrack album for the 2005 film Camp Burlesque, see 2007, but is not in the film itself (included in VHS & DVD 2000s Part 3 for completeness). |

Bob Dylan & The Plugz - bootleg cassette picture from Bandcamp web-site |
The Cruzados were previously known as the Plugz, and accompanied Bob on the NBC TV show "Late Nite With David Letterman" in New York on 22 Mar 1984 for three songs: Don't Start Me Talkin' (the Sonny Boy Williamson blues number), Jokerman and License To Kill. A three track EP called Bob Dylan & The Plugz circulated after that, and this EP is definitely a bootleg! License To Kill from 22 Mar 1984 is included on CD5 of the 5CD Deluxe Edition of The Bootleg Series Vol. 16 - Springtime In New York 1980-1985, 2021, as well as LP4 of the 4LP Third Man vinyl set.

Close To The Ground (Willie Nelson) - Infidels out-take, B-side of
single This reference CD single comes in both a card sleeve with the reverse plain and a jewel case with just a front insert, again plain on the reverse. The version in the jewel case does not have a catalogue number. The title of this song is shown incorrectly as "Angels Flying...". For original releases of this single, see 1983 (some of those got the title wrong, too!). It has never appeared on CD, and is described here as "From Vinyl Source". The CD is dated 5 May 2000. |
Warner Bros A44127 (USA) - CD scan by Hans Seegers |
This single was made for use in the film "Vanilla Sky" (released in 2001). Sadly this song was not used in the film, and 4th Time Around, the live version from The Bootleg Series Vol. 4: Live 1966, The "Royal Albert Hall" Concert, was used instead.
For the 2001 audio soundtrack album, see International Album Releases (Various Artist Compilations) 2001.
For the film release, see VHS & DVD: Films with Dylan Album Tracks 2000s Part 1.

"The Best Of Bob Dylan Volume 2" - compilation 2CD set: Columbia 498361-2 (Limited Edition with Bonus Disc 498361-9), (Europe/Australia)/Sony TVK-24076 (Canada), May 2000:
All older tracks on this album have been digitally remastered using SBM - the version of Changing Of The Guards included is the extended version from the 1999 remastered Street-Legal. As the Standard Edition album without the Limited Edition bonus disk no longer contains any rarities, full details are in International Releases (Dylan-only Compilations) 2000s. Only releases of the Limited Edition are now listed here.
The front picture was also used for The Very Best Of Bob Dylan below, and also in the 2003 SA-CD edition of Blood On The Tracks. Gerd Rundel's Limited Edition copy has an extra front sticker with German tour dates for May 2000.
R-0299 Things Have Changed
from The Wonder Boys soundtrack, lyrics on
bobdylan.com
here
Now no longer a rarity since it is included in The Essential Bob Dylan
(2000) on the bobdylan.com albums page.
R-0273 Dignity - original Oh Mercy out-take
produced by Daniel Lanois from the Touched By An Angel OST - see
1998,
not the 1994 Brendan O'Brien remixed version for Greatest Hits Vol. 3, which retained only
Bob's vocal and piano and added new backing
Now no longer a rarity since it is included in Dylan
(2007) on the bobdylan.com albums page.
R-0049 Positively 4th Street
- slightly longer at 4:10 than the version from the
original Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits (USA)/More Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits
(UK), which is 3:56
This is the version from the 1966 Columbia Disco
Teen 66 compilation, not the original single, which appears on
Masterpieces (see 1978) and Biograph
(1985).
Carsten Baumann informs me that he's checked the version on the stereo release
of Disco Teen '66 against
this and the version now included on the remastered Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits (US
release), and they are the same. This would mean it replaces the single version
which now can be purchased only on Biograph. Thanks also to David
Goldsmith for confirmation. This stereo version of R-0049 has ceased to be a rarity, and has been moved
to the new Released Rarities page! The mono
version of R-0049, R-0049M, remains a rarity and is still listed for
1965
and
1966.
The following two tracks were issued on a limited edition bonus CD single given away with The Best Of Bob Dylan Vol. 2 in the UK (and also Australia) in May, 2000:
R-0435 Highlands (live, previously unreleased) - from Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, Santa Cruz, CA, 16 Mar 2000 (A)
R-0435 appeared on the Sony Music Bob Dylan Custom Mix CD web-site, Apr 2003, see Online Performances (Other).
R-0436 Blowin' In The Wind (live, previously
unreleased) - again from Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, Santa Cruz, CA, 16 Mar
2000 (A)
This date has been obtained from fan sources, not from Columbia, I can
personally confirm it's correct as I've been contacted by the taper.
A US radio station
reported this performance was from Nampa, ID, 20 Mar 2000 - this cannot be
correct, Bob plays harmonica here and he didn't in Nampa!
Thanks to "Les Memory" for the information that this album with the bonus disc was also released in Australia and to Gerd Rundel, Bill Hester. Jack from Canada and Paul Shenton for pictures. The Limited Edition with the bonus disc wasn't released in Japan.

R-2358 Changin' Of The Guards - exclusive remix of 1978 track from
Street-Legal
I originally reported that the version of Changin'
Of The Guards was the original 1978 Street-Legal version
(also found on CD on Greatest Hits Vol. 3). Les Kokay thinks that this
instance has been remixed uniquely for this compilation. However, Larry Crum has
listened to this version and the original version on headphones and cannot hear
any differences.
The other 28 tracks are current album versions. Tracklist:
CD1: Blowin’ In The Wind; Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right; A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall; The Times They Are A-Changin'; It Ain't Me, Babe; Subterranean Homesick Blues; It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue' She Belongs To Me; Mr. Tambourine Man; Positively 4th Street; Brownsville Girl; Like A Rolling Stone; I Want You; Rainy Day Women #12 & 35; Just Like A Woman; All Along The Watchtower; I'll Be Your Baby Tonight; Lay, Lady, Lay; If Not For You; I Shall Be Released.
CD2: Knockin' On Heaven's Door; Forever Young; Tangled Up In Blue; Hurricane; Changing Of The Guards (R-2358); Gotta Serve Somebody; Every Grain of Sand; Jokerman; Emotionally Yours; Silvio; Love Sick (live - R-0263); Things Have Changed (formerly R-0299).
Harald Sigvartsen points out that on the "timeline" pages the live double album Before the Flood is omitted while Dylan & the Dead is listed as having been released in 1988 (as it also is on bobdylan.com). This album was released on 9 Feb 1989, although it's possible a 1988 release date was planned but put back. Harald's second scan shows the content of the two discs of this compilation album. There is an asterisk on four of the tracks on disc one. This asterisk, as seen on the right side of the scan, refers to the following note (translated from Swedish): “alternate album title Subterranean Homesick Blues”. However, on track 7, this alternate album title is given in the listing instead of Bringing It All Back Home. There is also an error in one of the song titles, namely Changing Of the Guards, which on both the rear insert and in the booklet is called “Changing of the Guard”.
Jack from Canada's copy of COL 498540 2 has the same artwork but a slightly different CD design with a white vertical stripe instead of yellow. It has a "MADE IN HOLLAND" sticker on the back of the jewel case, but Hans Seegers assures me this is incorrect.
Thanks to Jack from Canada, Hans Seegers, Harald Sigvartsen and Gerd Rundel for information and scans.

Broadside Singers, 1964
Thanks to Jack from Canada for confirming this possible Dylan involvement from the
Smithsonian Folkways web-site (this site listed it before they did). It's
worth adding the caveat that the recording took place in New York on 29
Oct 1964 and neither Glen Dundas nor Michael Krogsgaard list a Dylan
involvement in this date.
The set also includes Blowin' In The Wind by The New World Singers and A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall by Pete Seeger.
Jean-Pol Hiernaux informs me that much of the Broadside/Folkways music is now downloadable from the Smithsonian Folkways site. However, none of the tracks by Blind Boy Grunt are included! Thanks to Thierry van Reeth and Jack from Canada for further information and scans.
