"Victoria's Secret
Exclusive: Lovesick" - 9 track promo CD
for Victoria's Secret, Sony A72812 (USA), Mar 2004:
This album was produced
exclusively by the Sony Music Custom Marketing Group for the lingerie manufacturer Victoria's Secret.
Not only have they used
Bob's song Love Sick in their US TV ads, but also Bob himself appears in the Apr 2004 ad with supermodel Adriana Lima in scenes shot in Venice, Italy! The three pictures
used in the artwork are previously unpublished - the one on the inside of the
front
insert shows Bob playing piano on stage in 2003.
The Limited Edition CD could be purchased for $10 with a Victoria's Secret purchase, in any
store, by phone or on their web-site, up to 11 Apr 2004. Note that "Lovesick" in the album
title is one word.

R-0658 Love Sick
R-0299 Things Have
Changed Tracklisting:
The remix of Love Sick has a much cleaner sound than on the original Time Out Of Mind album, and it's possible it comes from the as yet unreleased remixed/remastered album that was scheduled to be included as one of the 15 Dylan albums released on hybrid SACD in Sep 2003, see International Albums (Regular). There is a folded front insert, inside which is a folded leaflet advertising the latest Bootleg Series Vol. 6: Live 1964 release and other Dylan albums. The pictures below are of two sheets of artwork prior to being cut up for use in the CDs, offered for auction on eBay. Thanks to Dag Braathen and Keith Venturoni for finding this item and to Ian Woodward for further information. Thanks especially to Jim and Gail Paboucek for the CD. |

This is a "Best Of" compilation from a series of "New Woman" compilations of songs by (mostly) female artists that started in 1999. This implies that R-0359 appeared previously on a "New Woman" CD, but I can't find it (several of the albums have other songs by Gabrielle). This album of Dylan covers
in a digipak contains
three tracks with Bob participating! There is an 8-page booklet. Bob is only
credited on Nashville Skyline Rag. The
only song writing credit is on the back of the digipak - "all songs written
by Bob Dylan". There is no credit to Willie Nelson for co-writing
Heartland. R-0074-5 Nashville Skyline Rag
R-0216-3 Heartland
(Bob Dylan/Willie Nelson) R-0215-4 Boots Of Spanish Leather
Other artists featured are Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, The Byrds and Emmylou Harris. Thanks to Tim Dunn for this information about a promo copy of this album: "If there are other promos, I don’t know, but this one merely had the UPC (Universal Price Code) on the back cover blacked out by a marker. The catalog number is Shout! Factory DK 37487. The disc reads ‘Distributed by Sony Music Entertainment Inc.” It is a gatefold package, with a sticker on the shrink-wrap listing five artists, with a six-page booklet tucked in a sleeve on the left inside. The notes are by Eddie Gorodetsky, he of "Christmas with Eddie G." and “Dharma & Greg.” Oddly, only “Nashville Skyline Rag” mentions Dylan as a guest although “Heartland’ is from Willie Nelson’s Across The Borderline and “Boots of Spanish Leather” is from Nanci Griffith’s Other Voices, Other Rooms. There is even an ISBN (something I’ve never understood for music recordings): 0-7389-2812-7." Thanks to Dave Plentus for scans, and thanks to Jean-Pol Hiernaux for finding the CD-R promo. Thanks to Freddy Ordoñez Araque for information about the Columbia 2CD set The Essential Earl Scruggs, released 2 Mar 2004 - this compilation has a version of Nashville Skyline Rag on CD2, but it's a version by Earl Scruggs, Lester Flatt, and the Foggy Mountain Boys, not R-0074. The original release was on a 1970 Flatt & Scruggs album called Final Fling. |

The limited edition of this album (the first manufacturing run) also
includes a bonus 8 track "dub" disc with R-0665. The USA edition has "Vol. 1"
beneath the front cover picture, the UK release does not. There is also a
limited edition vinyl 2LP set released both in the USA and in the UK for Europe. David Plentus tells me it contains only five of
the eight tracks on the bonus "dub" CD, but it does include R-0665.
The "dub" disc was released separately by RAS Records in Apr 2005, see
2005.

R-0665 I And I
The reggae remix features legendary drum and bass duo Sly & Robbie (Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare). The other songs on the set are The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll (Michael Rose); Maggie's Farm (Toots Hibbert); Blowin' In The Wind (Don Carlos); Mr Tambourine Man (Gregory Isaacs); One Too Many Mornings (Abijah); The Times They Are A-Changin' (Apple Gabriel); Gotta Serve Somebody (Incline); A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall (Billy Mystic); Don't Think Twice, It's All Right (J C Lodge), Lay, Lady, Lay (The Mighty Diamonds), Knockin' On Heaven's Door (Luciano), Subterranean Homesick Blues (Sizzla) and Just Like A Woman (Beres Hammond). The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest (Yellowman) was originally included in the tracklist but has not made it on to the final album. Information from "HwyCDRrev" and Larry Crum. Thanks also to Clayton Bushong of Gigante Media for the picture of the US release. The front insert is a 16 page booklet and both CDs mimic Columbia vinyl releases with "365° SOUND"/"STEREO" logos. Thanks to David Plentus for scans of the US set and the UK promo, which came in a card sleeve and contains CD1 only.

Thanks to David Plentus for the information that this set was released by Silverline in the USA on 25 Jan 2005 in a "DualDisc" format - this is a double-sided disc with a CD layer on one side and a DVD layer on the other. The DVD layer includes the album in 5.1 surround sound plus videos for Subterranean Homesick Blues and "making the album", and additional content. However, this "Dual Disk" release has completely different mixes of the tracks and does not contain either R-0664 or R-0665. | ||

This promo CD has been released by Columbia Records to promote the publication of the first part of Bob's autobiography "Chronicles Volume One" by Simon & Schuster in the USA. It has two previously unreleased tracks. The CD is in a jewel case with a clear tray and a red sticker on the front describing the disc. The front insert is a single card. The disc itself is plain red with a spoof white "361° SOUND STEREO" logo as on 1960s stereo LPs. The reverse of the rear insert (under the CD tray) has an excerpt of typescript from the book. Two further parts of this autobiography are promised. There is also an unabridged audio book on 6CDs read by Sean Penn, thanks to Franck Faugere for the scan. R-0679 The Cuckoo Is A Pretty
Bird (Traditional)
R-0680 Dignity
The original Oh Mercy out-take
of Dignity produced by Daniel Lanois (R-0273) first appeared on the Touched By An Angel OST - see 1998. Also on The Best Of Bob Dylan Vol. 2,
see 2000 and
the UK/French release of The Essential Bob Dylan, see 2001,
and now on the 2007 3CD compilation Dylan.
The 1994 Brendan O'Brien remixed version for Greatest Hits Vol. 3
retained only Bob's vocal and piano and added new backing. R-0680 is now
also on the 2005 Sony France
tie-in compilation Chroniques: Volume 1, see 2005. R-0071-2 New Morning
The other tracks on this CD are New Morning (album version); Father of Night (from New Morning); Political World (from Oh Mercy); Man In The Long Black Coat (from Oh Mercy). New Morning and Father Of Night appear to be remastered, and may be from a forthcoming remastered release of New Morning. New Morning includes the tuning/intro that was present on the original US and UK vinyl releases but has been absent from all CD releases of the album (R-0071, see 1970). This is a rarity at the moment, but if a new release of the New Morning album includes it, the track without the intro will become the rarity! This six track CD is available at branches of outlets such as Tower Records, Borders, Newbury Comics and Bestbuy with purchase of the book plus a Dylan CD. Reports of a second CD single with only five tracks omitting R-0679 as listed on the Newbury Comics web-site are incorrect - Newbury Comics are supplying the same 6-track CD as everyone else, and their web-page originally gave information that had been wrongly supplied to them by Columbia Records! Thanks to Peter Gilmer, "HwyCDRrev", Kurt Schroeder and Tim Dunn for information. Thanks to Tim Dunn for the copy of "Newsweek" with Bob on the cover, and inside talking about his book. Thanks to David Plentus for scans. Thanks to John Lettiere for the book and disc. Thanks to Jean-Pierre Mercier and Ian Woodward for the information that this CD was available from French booksellers in May 2005 with a new European catalogue number SAMPCD 14513 2 tied in with the publication of the French translation of Bob's book. These promo CD's are scheduled to be offered as prizes in various contests organised by various French music magazines ("Libération" "Les Inrockuptibles"). Thanks to Nol Grint for information and scans of a new European version with catalogue number SAMPCM 15043 2 being given away in Sep 2005 with copies of The Bootleg Series Vol. 7 - No Direction Home. This CD comes in a card sleeve with Bob on the front and the New York pictures from the book cover on the rear, and was purchased in Holland from a chain called Plato. It is available also at HMV in the UK. Both this new CD SAMPCM 15043 2 and 2004's SAMPCD 14513 2 were manufactured by the Columbia plant in Austria. Thanks to Jack from Canada for scans of the US 6CD audiobook, read by Sean Penn. |

On the insert for this album this performance is identified as "live in Australia", which is incorrect as Bob has never performed this song in Australia! "Gaumont Theatre Sheffield/Free Trade Hall Manchester" - two single-sided acetates, Columbia Recording Studios, Nashville, TN (USA), 1966, surfaced in Ireland, Oct 2004:

|
R-0685 It's All Over Now, Baby Blue - live from
Gaumont Theatre, Sheffield, England, 16 May 1966, from acetates made by
Columbia Recording Studios, Nashville TN R-0686 Desolation Row - live as R-0685 These two single-sided acetates were found by Annie West in Oct 2004. One is from Sheffield, 16 May 1966, and contains It's All Over Now, Baby Blue and Desolation Row, otherwise officially unreleased. The second is from Manchester, 17 May 1966, but the exact contents are not known. She says: "I'm in Sligo Ireland by the way, and the story of the acetates is that they came from Bob Johnson when he was here producing an album for the Waterboys. he gave them away (after trying to sell them) and they ended up in my house where I found them at the very bottom of a box full of albums for throwing out!" For the long-awaited release of the Manchester 1966 concert in 1998 as The Bootleg Series Vol. 4: Bob Dylan Live 1966 - The "Royal Albert Hall" Concert, see International Albums (Regular). For acetates of the 1966 live performance with The Hawks, see Promotional Albums 1969-85. For performances included in 1991 on a CD with Il Dizionario del Rock, an Italian part-work magazine, which are probably from the Manchester Free Trade Hall concert, see Questionable Releases.
