Various Artists - "Chimes Of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International" - compilation 4CD set, Fontana 7401001 (USA), 24 Jan 2012:

Fontana 7401001 (USA) - front with stickers, scan by Manuel Garcia Jara
This charity set of Dylan covers to be distributed by Universal/Fontana on behalf of Amnesty International was delayed until 24 Jan 2012, but has now been expanded to a 4CD set of 73 songs. The album was released internationally on 30 Jan 2012, and comes in a multi-fold digipak. The set was not originally intended to include Bob, but now contains his original recording of Chimes Of Freedom from Another Side Of Bob Dylan as track 18 on CD4. 70 of the songs are reported newly-recorded for this set, with all the artists and engineers working on a pro bono basis. Bob also recorded a duet of Chimes Of Freedom with Joan Osborne for the soundtrack of the US TV Series The '60s, see 1999.

On the US release the front panel with the album title is a sticker on the shrink-wrap of the sealed copy, so that the unsealed digipak has no front text. On the Australian and European releases below this panel is printed on the front of the digipak. Note the different spellings: "HONORING" (US) and "HONOURING" (Europe/Australia)! Also the European front sticker at bottom left includes the Fontana catalogue number, the US and Australian stickers do not, while the US sticker has top text "SPECIALLY PRICED" missing from the European and Australian stickers. All three sets of CDs have "HONORING".

The anthology includes a posthumous mix of One Too Many Mornings by Johnny Cash with the Avett Brothers, based on the version from Feb 1969 with Bob included on the Johnny Cash documentary The Man Ÿ His World Ÿ His Music (R-0069, see VHS & DVD 1960s). Bob's solo verses have been replaced by the Avett Brothers but he can still clearly be heard on the choruses.

R-0899 One Too Many Mornings - posthumous duet with Johnny Cash with the Avett Brothers based on the out-take from the Nashville Skyline sessions with Bob and Johnny, Columbia Studios, Nashville, TN, 18 Feb 1969, previously released in the 1969 film and video Johnny Cash: The Man Ÿ His World Ÿ His Music (R-0069, see VHS & DVD 1960s)

Thanks to Harold Lepidus for news that the Amnesty International benefit album tribute Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International is also to be released as a 2CD set from Starbucks. This set will include One Too Many Mornings by Johnny Cash and the Avett Brothers with Bob on background vocals, but not Bob's own version of Chimes Of Freedom.

Thanks to Harold Lepidus and Dr. Hanns Peter Bushoff for information and to Manuel Garcia Jara for scans.

Universal European 2CD-R promo - front (my copy)

The inside of the digipaks of the European and Australian releases are identical to those of the US release above. Thanks to Wiebke Dittmer for finding a Universal European 2CD promo on eBay (which I bought). I assume this is the same as the Starbucks 2CD set above. The European set was made in the EU. The Australian set was made in Australia and is marked by Universal Music Australia.

Thanks to Manuel Garcia Jara and Stuart Moore for further information and scans.

Classic Hits RADI-1181 (Germany) - picture from zweitausendeins.de
Thanks to Dirk Krah for news about a German Classic Hits CD release in their "One Song Edition" series with multiple versions of Mr. Tambourine Man - like the 2010 German Classic Hits releases with 20 versions of Blowin' In The Wind and House Of The Rising Sun, this release has 21 versions of Mr. Tambourine Man including Bob live with The Byrds (wrongly listed as from Montreal, but actually from Los Angeles, 1990) and Bob's solo piano demo of the song (again, wrongly listed as 1961 but actually 1963), from 2010's The Bootleg Series Vol. 9 - The Witmark Demos 1962-1964.

R-0217-3 Mr. Tambourine Man - with the Byrds, recorded at the Roy Orbison Tribute Concert, Universal Amphitheatre, Los Angeles, CA, 24 Feb 1990, from the Columbia/Legacy 4CD boxed set The Byrds, see 1990

Thanks to Dirk for verifying the contents of this CD.
