US stereo album, Columbia OC 40957 (LP), OCT 40957 (MC) CK 40957 (CD), 19 May 1988

For two test pressings/promo releases with different track listings and eventually withdrawn rarities, see 1987. For an Argentinean commercial release with the same track listing as the second promo version, see 1988.

The rumour at the time was that Down In The Groove was intended by Bob to be a double album but was cut down to a single album by Columbia. Certainly promos were released with two alternative track listings before the final tracklist was decided and the album was eventually released in May 1988. However, I have yet to see any physical evidence of a two disc set.

Out-takes from this album have been officially released as follows:

Sidewalks, Fences And Walls (Maurice Gimbel/Jerry Williams Jr.) - recorded Sunset Sound Studios, Los Angeles, CA, 5 Mar 1987 - four versions on a cassette tape which surfaced in 2007

This release has a purple/multicoloured obi with price ¥2,500. (Hans Seegers also has a promo of this.)

Second release: CBS/Sony 25DP 5147, date?
This release also has a purple/multicoloured obi but the price is now ¥2.348.

Columbia 460267 2 (Austria for Europe) - jewel case front scan by David Burgess	David Burgess tells me he bought this album in Germany in Nov 2000 at a time when the CD version was unavailable in the UK. The jewel case has a price sticker of DM 29.99. The album was apparently not released in the UK until 2001. My copy bought in the UK after then is identical.
