This page lists mono releases of this regular Bob Dylan album. For mono Greatest Hits albums with different track
lists, see Mono Dylan-Only Compilation Albums
1960s and Mono Dylan-Only
Compilation Albums 1970s. These LPs were listed here because the mono versions of Dylan songs
were
unavailable on CD until the release of the first eight Dylan albums in mono as
The Original Mono Recordings in 2010. For full details of the set, see
here. Although this album was not amongst
them all the tracks including Positively 4th Street (on The Best Of The
Original Mono Recordings compilation) are now available in mono. In fact,
the single CD The Best Of The
Original Mono Recordings contains all ten of these tracks, see
International Album
Releases (Dylan-Only Compilations) 2010s! Thanks to David Burgess for the UK catalogue numbers - all my mono LPs were stolen when my Manchester flat was burgled in May 1968! For stereo releases of this album, see International Album Releases (Regular). |

Mono LPs with rare tracks (e.g. mono versions with significant differences from the album tracks, such as different mixes, edits or fades) are listed in the main chronological pages. Mono singles up to 1976 have their own pages, see the links above.
This page is still incomplete. If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to
existing entries, please let me know!
Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities -
see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the
dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

"Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" - mono vinyl LP, Columbia KCL 2663
(USA/Canada), 27 Mar 1967:
The front photograph is a live 1966 shot by Rowland Scherman. The mono front
sleeve has a slightly lower crop of the picture than the stereo sleeve. For the stereo
release of this album, see
International Album
Releases (Regular). Roger Ford informs me that this album was compiled from the various
mono albums, unlike the UK mono album - see 1967.
Tracklisting:
Side 1: Rainy Day Women #12 & 35; Blowin' In The Wind; The Times They Are A-Changin'; It Ain't Me, Babe; Like A Rolling Stone
Side 2: Mr Tambourine Man; Subterranean Homesick Blues; I Want You; Positively 4th Street (1965 single); Just Like A Woman
This album came with a "psychedelic" poster by Milton Glaser, shown above right. The front sleeve of the album had a sticker advertising the poster which came in both black/white and purple/white. The rear sleeve advertised all seven of Bob's previous albums and had another live 1966 picture of Bob. This mono album was first released with the "MONO" and "360º SOUND"/arrows label design, the earlier "GUARANTEED HIGH FIDELITY" design (see the mono Bob Dylan page) had by now been discontinued. However, it was later released with just "MONO" and without the "360º SOUND"/arrows logos, as seen on the John Wesley Harding mono label - thanks to Keith Polasko for the information and scans (the label change can now be dated to late 1967). Gerd Rundel's first release copy has stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 - XLP 117275-1A, Side 2 - XLP 117276-1A. The front sleeve has the sticker advertising the giant poster as shown.
Chip Ordway has a copy of this album with the second release mono labels as below, but which plays stereo with matrix numbers: Side 1 - XSM117277-1E, Side 2 - XSM117278-1A. Stefan Neyman also has a copy with the second release mono labels but with stereo matrix numbers: Side 1 - XSM117277-1A, Side 2 - XSM117278-1G. Hans Seegers confirms this is a known error and the copies are very collectable. Ron Kraft also has a copy like this.
Gerd Rundel's second release copy has stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 - XLP-117275-1D. Side 2 - XLP-117275-1B. Nathaniel Nash has a copy with second release labels with matrix numbers: Side 1 - XLP-117275-1A. Side 2 - XLP-117275-1A, the same as Gerd Rundel's first release copy. It was stamped with the same master, but using the newer labels.
Harley ("Big Neon") has a copy of this album where Side 1 is blank except for the white pre-printed Columbia information, the black text is missing - photo shown above. This is an extreme rarity as I know of no other such copy.
Thanks to Hans Seegers, Roger Ford, Keith Polasko, Harley ("Big Neon"), "Joe" and Gerd Rundel for information, photos and scans.
"Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" - mono vinyl LP, Columbia KCL 2663 (USA/Canada), 27 Mar 1967:
"Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" - mono vinyl LP, CBS
ALD.8035 (South Africa), 1967:
For the stereo release of this album, CBS ASF 1674, see
International Album
Releases (Regular).
This album has a US-style sleeve and tracklist and the record has orange CBS labels. The rear sleeve has pictures of six Dylan mono albums with the South African ALD catalogue numbers.
Thanks to Gerd Rundel for finding this on eBay and to Arie de Reus for scans.
"Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" - mono vinyl LP, CBS
BP-233407 (Australia), 1967:
For the stereo release of this album, CBS SBP-233407, see
International Album
Releases (Regular).
The record labels had the text "MADE IN AUSTRALIA BY A REGISTERED USER OF THE TRADE MARKS" without a CBS copyright. This is because up to 1977 all Australian records were manufactured by the Australian Record Company (Pty) Ltd. (A.R.C.) on behalf of CBS.
Thanks to Christian Attfield for information and scans.
"Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" - mono vinyl LP reissue, Sundazed/Columbia LP 5156 (USA), May 2003:
"Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" - mono vinyl LP, Discos CBS CL 5238 (Mexico), 1968; (other countries/catalogue numbers?):

The Mexican album has orange CBS labels and written matrix
numbers 02-10-6399/6400-1A/B
(scans required). Arie de Reus has a French test pressing of this album with Side 1 only, with classical music on the reverse. This test pressing has blank labels, so a scan would be pointless. |
