This page lists mono releases of this regular Bob Dylan album. These LPs were listed here because the mono versions of Dylan songs were unavailable on CD until the release of the first eight Dylan albums in mono as The Original Mono Recordings in 2010. Mono LPs with rare tracks (e.g. mono versions with significant differences from the album tracks, such as different mixes, edits or fades) are listed in the main chronological pages. Mono singles up to 1976 have their own pages, see the links above.
Thanks to David Burgess for the UK catalogue numbers - all my mono LPs were stolen when my Manchester flat was burgled in May 1968!
For stereo releases of this album, see International Album Releases (Regular).
This page is still incomplete. If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to
existing entries, please let me know!
Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities -
see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the
dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

"Another Side Of Bob Dylan" - mono vinyl LP, Columbia CL 2193 (USA), 8 Aug 1964:
According to
Columbia's recording studio session documents, as collated by Michael Krogsgaard
in his series of articles on "Bob Dylan's Recording Sessions",
this album was recorded on 9 Jun 1964 in one night! The front photograph was taken by Sandy Speiser, another Columbia staff
photographer, who also took the photograph used in 2004 for The Bootleg
Series Vol. 6: Live 1964, see
International Album
Releases (Regular).
There are tiny differences between the rear sleeve of the promo release and the rear sleeves of two copies of the first commercial release. Renaud Depierreux's promo copy has the number "4" printed at the end of the bottom line of text. Gerd Rundel's promo copy is identical part from the radio station stamps from WXRT, Chicago, IL, on the rear sleeve. Hans Seegers' commercial copy has "5" printed at the end of Bob's liner notes, while Renaud's commercial copy has "7" printed slightly higher. "Frank" has a copy of the first release with the words "GUARANTEED HIGH FIDELITY" printed in a slightly different position on the record labels from the copy owned by Hans Seegers. Renaud Depierreux's promo copy has matrix numbers: Side 1 - XLP-77042-2C, Side 2 - XLP-77043-2F. Renaud's commercial copy has matrix numbers: Side 1 - XLP-77042-2A, Side 2 - XLP-77043-2G. Gerd Rundel has a copy with the same matrix numbers, while the promo copy with the radio station stamp on the rear sleeve has stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 - XLP-77042-2B, Side 2 - XLP-77043-2F. Ray Martell has a commercial copy that has the "4" printed on the rear sleeve at bottom right and where the record has matrix numbers: Side 1 - XLP-77042-2C, Side 2 - XLP-77043-2F as Renaud Depierreux's promo copy.
Nicholas Kutscheid has a first pressing copy of CL 2193 with the
"Guaranteed High Fidelity" label where the
labels on the disc have a textured surface. The label centres have a grid
pattern of Columbia eyes in raised relief (not shown well in the thumbnails
above but easily visible if you click on them to see the larger sized labels).
Gerd
Rundel has two copies with raised relief Columbia logos, one copy has “GUARANTEED HIGH
FIDELITY” printed slightly lower. Both has the same sleeve (“5” on rear) and
stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 – XLP-77042-2D, Side 2 - XLP-77043-2D.
Thanks to Hans Seegers, Nicholas Kutscheid, "Frank", Gerd Rundel, Renaud Depierreux and Manuel Garcia Jara for information and scans.
"Another Side Of Bob Dylan" - mono vinyl LP, Columbia CL 2193 (Canada), 8 Aug 1964:
"Another Side Of Bob Dylan" - mono vinyl LP, CBS BPG 62429 (UK), Nov 1964:
Gerd Rundel has a copy in the same sleeve as Hans Seegers' copy but with different labels: on Hans Seegers' copy to the right of the centre hole below "Blossom Music" the Side 1 label has "BPG 62429 A" with "è 1964" below it. On Gerd Rundel's and Mick Robinson's copies the Side 1 label has "BPG 62429 1L" with "RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1964" below it. This implies the record is earlier, and was made for CBS Records by Fontana/Philips - see the text for the UK stereo copy of Bob Dylan in International Album Releases (Regular Albums). I don't have a scan of Hans Seeger's Side 2 label but I assume it has "BPG 62429 B" with "è 1964" below it. On Gerd Rundel's and Mick Robinson's copies the Side 2 label has "BPG 62429 2L" with "RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1964" below it. Gerd Rundel's record has stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 - BPG 62429 1L // 1s 420 1 1 4, Side 2 - BPG 62429 2L // 1 s 420 1 1 1.
The above Fontana/Philips matrix
numbers contain a symbol like an upside down triangle.
The
upside down triangle I've used to display it belongs to a font called “Webdings”
that you should have on your PC as part of Windows. If you can't see the
triangle, you can download Webdings here:![]()
Thanks to Hans Seegers, Mick Robinson and Gerd Rundel for information and scans.
"Another Side Of Bob Dylan" - mono vinyl LP, CBS BP-233161 (Australia), 1965:
There are two label variants - on the first Side 1 there's a space between the album title and the first song title and the last song, To Ramona, is listed on two lines. On the second Side 1 the album title and the first song title are close together and To Ramona is listed on one line. On Side 2 the second copy again has a smaller gap between the album title and the second song title. The sleeves are both shown but appear identical. There are three folded over flaps.
All the record labels shown have round the circumference at the bottom the text "MADE IN AUSTRALIA BY A REGISTERED USER OF THE TRADE MARKS" without a CBS copyright. This is because up to 1977 all Australian records were manufactured by the Australian Record Company (Pty) Ltd. (A.R.C.) on behalf of CBS.
The stereo version of this album was not released until 1967, see International Album Releases (Regular).
Thanks to Hans Seegers and Stuart Moore for information and scans.

This album has orange CBS labels. Note the "Allan's" logo on
both sides - they were the then music publishers of CBS records in Australia and
New Zealand. The sleeve was printed by Cello-Kraft in New Zealand and the
record was made in New Zealand also. The stereo version of this album was not released until 1967, see International Album Releases (Regular). Thanks to Bill Hester for information and scans. |

Columbia/Legacy/Sony Music 88697761042 (Europe) - front of outer box with sticker (my copy) |
This set of Bob's first eight albums in the original mono mixes comes in a cutaway card box inside an outer box. The CD albums are in thick card sleeves reproducing the original mono album artwork, in this case Columbia CL 2193. The CD comes in a plain inner sleeve and its design is based on the original Columbia design (see above). Thanks to Éamonn Ó Catháin for information that this album can be downloaded in MP3 format from Play.com in the UK for £6.99 or £0.89 per track. For full details of the set, see here. Thanks to Sonny Boy McFitzson for information about the Japanese release, Sony Music SICP 2151-59. It has a wrap-around obi with price ¥18,900 (¥18,000 plus sales tax). This has been reduced from the originally announced price of ¥25,000! As the original mono albums were never released in Japan, each has a light blue top obi based on those of the original stereo releases. The Japanese CD also comes in a plain inner sleeve with a Japanese language booklet. The 12" mono LP is available separately from the vinyl boxed set as a Dutch release, Music On Vinyl MOVLP 242 (NL) - scans required. Thanks to Anthony Perry for information and scans. |
