This page is part of a new section of original releases by release date of international commercially-released regular stereo Dylan albums. They do not contain rarities or obscurities and are not eligible for the Searching For A Gem list. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo releases of regular albums are now listed here and not in the yearly Promo sections.

For LP and tape releases of The Times They Are A Changin', click Up.

This page is still incomplete - more entries required. For releases of this album in CBS/Columbia multi-packs, see International Album Releases (Regular) - Multi-Packs.

If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

"The Times They Are A-Changin'" - CD reissues, CBS COL 32021 (Europe), 1989/Columbia COL 32021 (Europe), 1997:

CBS COL 32021 (Europe) - outside of front insert, scan by Hans Seegers
The front insert of the CBS release is a 24-page booklet which includes the "11 Outlined Epitaphs" and a "NICE PRICE" catalogue.

Confusingly, the Australian release CBS 467175 2 (see below) was also on sale in Europe in a version with card rather than paper inserts. It used the Columbia COL 32021 CD.

The Columbia release is still on sale in Europe today, and restores the old 1960s "STEREO"/arrows logo. The front insert of the Columbia release is a 16-page booklet which includes the "11 Outlined Epitaphs" but omits "NICE PRICE" catalogue.

Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans.

"The Times They Are A-Changin'" - CD reissue, CBS 467175 2 (Australia), 1997:

CBS 467175 2 (Australia)
- front insert scan by Hans Seegers
The front insert is a single card. Surprisingly, this release was also sold in Europe at the time, in an Austrian manufactured version. The Australian release used paper for the inserts, while the Austrian release used light card.

Note the CD inserts have "CBS" while the CD itself has "Columbia"!

Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans.

CBS/Sony COL CD 32021 (Spain) - front insert picture by Pachi Becerril
This Spanish special release is part of a series called "Canta Autores [Songwriters Sing]" from Ediciones del Prado, Spain - there is also a Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits in the same series.

It is unusual for the company name "CBS/Sony" to be used outside Japan! The front and rear inserts have catalogue number COL CD 32021 (same as the current European CD) while the CD itself has a special "Canta Autores" design with catalogue number CA049.

"The Times They Are A-Changin'" - remastered CD-R promo release, Sony BMG (no catalogue number) (Austria for Europe), Jun 2005:

Plain paper front insert
Legacy Recordings have been using the slogan "Not Just Reissued... Reimagined" for some time, but this album and Bob Dylan, released at the same time, are described as "reasserted" - whatever that means! The sound is certainly very good indeed.

This promo CD-R release comes in a clear plastic wallet with a plain paper insert showing the album title and track list only, plus the Sony BMG logo.

The CD-R is plain with only the album title and number of tracks.

Thanks to the staff at Badlands, Cheltenham, UK, for these promos.

"The Times They Are A-Changin'" - remastered CD release, Columbia CK 94240 (USA), Columbia 519892 2 (Austria for Europe), 21 Jun 2005/Columbia 519892 2 (Argentina), 2005:

Columbia CK 94240 (USA) - front scan by Hans Seegers (sealed copy)
This release is a stereo CD only, not a hybrid SACD. The front picture crop is similar to that of the original US mono sleeve in that it cuts off most of Bob's hair and just shows the second button on his shirt.

There are three previously unpublished contemporary photos on the back page of the front insert booklet and the rear insert. The 12-page stapled booklet reproduces the original sleeve notes with all the "11 Outlined Epitaphs" and features two more pictures. The CD reproduces the original 1964 US Columbia label design but without the "STEREO/360º SOUND" logos.

Thanks to Hans Seegers for the US and Argentinean release scans and to Jack from Canada for the Canadian release scans.

"The Times They Are A-Changin'" - remastered CD release, Sony Music MHCP 836 (Japan), Sep 2005:

Sony Music MHCP 836 (Japan) - front of sealed copy with top obi and "Carnegie Hall" sticker (my copy)
The equivalent 2005 remastered Japanese release comes in a card sleeve reproducing the LP sleeve with a top obi. There is a card insert with the original poems and a folded booklet containing Japanese language sleeve notes plus lyrics in English and Japanese. The CD itself reproduces an original stereo vinyl label and is in a clear sleeve.

The front sticker, different from the ones on the 2004 Japanese releases in card sleeves, advertises the free six-track CD Bob Dylan Live At Carnegie Hall 1963 (see 2005). In Japan this can only be obtained in exchange for five tokens, one from each of the following newly-released albums:

  • No Direction Home: The Soundtrack - The Bootleg Series Vol. 7
  • Bob Dylan
  • The Times They Are A-Changin'
  • Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits
  • Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. 2

Thanks to Michio Kinoshita for information about these albums.
