US release (3CDs/cassettes), Columbia/Legacy C3K 47382 (CD), C3T 47382 (MC), 26 Mar 1991 The original UK 3CD 12" boxed set contained a rarity, R-0212, an edit of Series of Dreams (5:37) that has now been replaced on the current CD reissue by the full version (5:52). For this release, other rarities and promo releases see 1991. A 5LP vinyl version was released in Europe only. The 1991 European cassette and vinyl releases had the full version of Series Of Dreams. |

This may actually be an instrumental out-take commonly called

Medicine Sunday could
also be the 57 second incomplete take of an early version of Temporary Like
Achilles with Bob backed by The Band, which starts "The midnight train moves all
down the track ... ". It ends with a breakdown after four lines ending with "
... Honey, but you're so hard". This was included on the Sony/Graphix Zone

This 12" x 12" box has a 12" x 6" "long box" booklet (see below for the 1991 boxed
set CD release). Each cassette has a folded insert and the cassettes are black with red CBS paper labels. The three cassette inserts have the same design as the three CD front inserts. |

This set was housed in a 12" x 6" box,
taped at the left-hand side (the lids on the 12" x 12 " LP and cassette
boxes were detachable). The individual CDs are numbered CK 47399, CK 47400
and CK 47401. Moise Potie's copy, bought in Canada, is the US release with a

This really is a boxed set! It comes in a blue wooden box with gold
fittings and with a special certificate (shown on right). The box
was made in the UK. Thanks to Carl Torstensson for pointing out that it does
contain the booklet that is found in the LP releases, even though it can't
be seen in these photos This item is very rare and boxes which become available command a high price! This set not only has an edited version of Series Of Dreams at 5:37 but also included a promo CD single 5 Tracks From The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3, Columbia/Legacy SAMPCD 1476, see 1991. Replacing the jewel case edition of 1997, the CDs are now housed in a
10" x 5½" hardback book style digipak, similar externally to the US 1991
long box. The CDs are identical to
those of the 1997 release, with the same serial numbers for the European
discs: 488100-10/1,

Stuart Moore's copy bought in Australia has the US catalogue number with the discs the same as the 1997 US release. Thanks to Roberto Bergadano for information about the release of this set from the Italian magazine "L'Espresso" in 2007. The most significant difference is that the booklet is translated into Italian, copyrighted "Gruppo Editoriale L'Espresso 2007". They are also selling an edition of the DVD set No Direction Home, although I have no information as yet about any differences between that and the UK edition.

The set shown is a promo release, with a sticker on the rear
cover and "SAMPLE - LOANED" text on the CDs themselves. It has two booklets,
the regular 60-page English language booklet, plus a 56-page Japanese
language booklet. There is a Japanese sticker on the front with price ¥5,670
