This new page collects song performances from regular Dylan albums on VHS video and DVD included in films and TV series from 2005-09 (I'm ignoring any editing or talking over them). I would be grateful for any additional information on these items and other material to place here. Films are listed by date of original appearance (in theatres or on TV), not when the VHS video or DVD came out, often some years later. The last entry for which there was a VHS release appears to be 2005. For the audio soundtrack albums on which these songs often also appear, see International Album Releases (Various Artists Compilations) 2000s. For films from this period with Dylan rarities, see VHS & DVD. Uncredited pictures are from amazon.com or amazon.co.uk.
For a full Dylan filmography, see "Expecting Rain"
or "TV Talkin'"
. For
informed discussion of all Bob's screen appearances, see C.P. Lee's
well-received book "Like A Bullet Of Light ".
Any scans that aren't credited are from my own collection or amazon.com.
If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to
existing entries, please let me know!
Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities -
see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the
dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

This film biography of Johnny Cash contains Highway 61 Revisited, although it is not on the soundtrack album (below), which contains only cover performances from the film. The soundtrack album does contain Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash and Reese Witherspoon (who won a Best Actress Oscar) as June Carter performing It Ain't Me, Babe. There are several references to Bob in the film, including a framed picture of the Blonde On Blonde album cover on the wall in the Columbia offices.
The music director for the film was Bob's friend T-Bone Burnett.

The film "Watchmen" is adapted from the graphic novel by
Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, and directed by Zack Snyder. The Times They Are
A-Changin' is played in full over the opening credits and a cover of Desolation Row is
played during the closing credits. The graphic novel, originally published
in 1985-86 as a series of comic books, uses quotes from
the lyrics of Desolation Row and All Along The Watchtower as chapter
headings. The Director's
Cut at 186 mins is 24 mins longer than the Theatrical version at 162 mins,
but as far as I know includes no extra Dylan material. For the film
soundtrack album, which includes
The Times They
Are A-Changin', Jimi Hendrix's cover of All Along The Watchtower from
John Wesley Harding and a cover of Desolation Row from Highway 61
Revisited by My Chemical Romance, see
International Album Releases (Various Artist Compilations) 2009. The associated animated release "Tales Of The Black Freighter" contains more material from the graphic novel not included in the Theatrical version, but again there is no Dylan content. |

"Shikisoku Generation" is a Japanese film directed by Tomorowo Taguchi based on a semi-autobiographical novel by Jun Miura. The main character is obsessed with Bob Dylan, and the film includes It's All Over Now, Baby Blue from Bringing It All Back Home. This excerpt was included on the bonus DVD with the Japanese limited edition of Together Through Life, see International Album Releases. As well as the single DVD release, there is also a 3 disc set including a CD. The Dylan track is not on the UK Project soundtrack album, which consists of music by Yoshihide Otomo. "Shikisoku zekuu" is a Buddhist expression meaning among other things "all is vanity", so the film title could be "Vanity Generation". For "Iden & Tity", a 2004 film directed by Tomorowo Taguchi based on a series of comic books by Jun Miura, see Films with Dylan Album Tracks 2000-04.
