This is a separate multi-year list by release date of commercially-released Various Artist stereo compilation albums released in 2009 that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only Bob Dylan performances which are available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo-only Various Artist compilation albums with Dylan tracks are now included in this list. Other International Compilations are now here:
There must be hundreds of these albums from round the world! If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to
existing entries, please let me know!
Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities -
see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the
dealers on my Trading page for assistance!
Revised 19 July, 2010.

This film soundtrack album includes The Times They Are A-Changin', Jimi Hendrix's
cover of All Along The Watchtower from John Wesley Harding and a
cover of Desolation Row from Highway 61 Revisited by My Chemical
Romance. It also includes Nina Simone's version of Berthold Brecht's
Pirate Jenny, thought to be an inspiration for When The Ship Comes In. The film "Watchmen" is adapted from the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, and directed by Zack Snyder. The Times They Are A-Changin' is played in full over the opening credits and Desolation Row is played during the closing credits. For DVD releases see VHS & DVD: Films With Dylan Album Tracks 2000s Part 2. The graphic novel, originally published in 1985-86 as a series of comic books, has chapter headings and quotes from the lyrics of Desolation Row and All Along The Watchtower. There is also a companion album with the original movie score by Tyler Bates - this has no Dylan content. |

Bob performed two Woody Guthrie songs, Vigilante Man and Do Re Mi, for inclusion in a documentary film project called "The People Speak" to be broadcast on the History Channel in the USA on 13 Dec 2009. The documentary was inspired by two books: "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn (1980, revised edition 2003) and "Voices of A People's History of the United States", edited by Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove (2004). Apparently only Do Re Mi is included in the broadcast, but Vigilante Man may be included in one of a number of supplementary videos which will be made available online. Amazon lists a DVD of “The People Speak” to be released by A&E Home Video on 26 Jan 2010 - more information will be added when available.
