Audio: International Album Releases - Various Artist Compilations 2008

This is a separate multi-year list by release date of commercially-released Various Artist stereo compilation albums released in 2008 that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only Bob Dylan performances which are available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Front of card sleeve, scan by Hans Seegers

This CD in a black card sleeve was given away with a 130-page book about Bob from the Greek newspaper called "Ta Nea [The News]". It's a collection of Dylan covers and was supposed to include Girl From The North Country, the duet with Johnny Cash from Nashville Skyline, as printed on the rear of the card sleeve. However, the CD actually contains the original version of the song from The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan!

The Dylan track on this compilation is Boots Of Spanish Leather from The Times They Are A-Changin'. Hopes that it would be a track from the Starbucks exclusive album Bob Dylan Live At The Gaslight 1962 (see 2005) were unfounded.

This soundtrack album accompanying seasons one and two of this TV series includes Man In The Long Black Coat from Oh Mercy as well as David Bowie's song Heroes. However, the song was not actually used in any episode of the series! The Special Deluxe Edition comes in a digipak and has extra tracks. Thanks to Wil Gielen for scans of a Japanese promo CD-R that comes in a slimline CD single jewel case with a folded card as the only insert. The commercial copy shown is still sealed.

Bob's contribution to this Japanese 2CD compilation in a unique Japanese double CD box is Like A Rolling Stone from Highway 61 Revisited. The set has a black obi with white and yellow text with price ¥2,940 (¥2,800 before tax) and release date "08-6-25" (25 Jun 2008). The original release date is also shown as "08-6-25" (25 Jun 2008) and the withdrawal date as "08-12-24" (24 Dec 2008). On the rear insert the title of the set is given as "Memorable Popular Hits: S Ban 50 Golden Radio Days".

This promo CD in a jewel case is a tribute to music publisher Lou Levy, the founder of Leeds Music, which was one of Bob's publishing companies in the early 1960s. Bob's contribution is Talkin' New York from Bob Dylan. The insert includes an excerpt from "Chronicles Vol. 1" and Bob is one of the names receiving "special thanks".

This 11-track item is described as a CD single but looks like an album to me. Bob's contribution is It's All Over Now, Baby Blue from Bringing It All Back Home. He was, of course, not at the original Woodstock. Other tracks of interest are The Byrds with The Ballad Of Easy Writer, part-written by Bob, and a live performance of Blowin' In The Wind by Joan Baez.
