This is a separate multi-year list by release date of commercially-released Various Artist stereo compilation albums released in 2002 that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only Bob Dylan performances which are available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo-only Various Artist compilation albums with Dylan tracks are now included in this list. Other International Compilations are now here:
There must be hundreds of these albums from round the world! This page is still incomplete. If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to
existing entries, please let me know!
Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities -
see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the
dealers on my Trading page for assistance!
Revised 12 March, 2010.

This set comprises four 2CD sets - CDs 7 and 8 are called Simple Song Of Freedom (Time-Life 70221), and Bob's contribution is on CD7 which has Boots Of Spanish Leather from The Times They Are A-Changin', along with Harry Belafonte's Midnight Special where Bob plays harmonica. As this is a rarity, full details are in 2002. Bob's contribution is Honest With Me from "Love And Theft". This is just the regular album track - not an exclusive Grammy
rehearsal performance as wrongly reported in the Dylan fanzine
"Series Of Dreams", issue 90. Not only was the album released
before the Grammy rehearsals took place, but also Bob rehearsed only Cry A
While, the song he performed live on the show. For a US Columbia promo CD single with a radio edit of Honest With Me, released to coincide with the Grammy Awards, see 2002. |

The Japanese promo CD shown, Epic EDCI 80088, comes without inserts. The commercial release is Epic EICP 216. Then he became number two of the sadly famous company "Vivendi" which bought Universal. This boxed set was released to coincide with the PBS TV series "Freedom: A History of US". The Columbia/Legacy Records press release of 22 Nov 2002 says:
"Freedom: Songs From The Heart of America is a new 3CD box set which will be the musical companion to the upcoming TV series "Freedom: A History of US," which premieres on PBS in January 2003. Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings have mined their rich archive of recordings to prepare a unique, collectible box set that features music which addresses the struggle for freedom in America. The 3CD, 67-song package arrives in stores December 10, 2002.
Freedom: Songs From The Heart of America will feature a combination of songs that appear in the "Freedom" PBS series plus additional songs inspired by the narrative of the series. Included are tracks covering virtually every important historical event in American history -- from the Revolutionary War through the challenges we face in the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11th. The selection of blues, folk, country, jazz, folk, gospel and rock songs are performed by such artists as Louis Armstrong, Leonard Bernstein, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Woody & Arlo Guthrie, Billie Holiday, Mahalia Jackson, Leadbelly, Keb' Mo', Willie Nelson, Pete Seeger, Simon & Garfunkel, Sly & The Family Stone, Nina Simone, Kate Smith, Bruce Springsteen, and many more. In addition, the package will include a booklet featuring rare photos and historical essays."
