Christmas In The Heart (2009)
|
This page is part of a list of original releases by release date of international commercially-released regular stereo Dylan albums. They do not contain rarities or obscurities and are not eligible for the Searching For A Gem list. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo releases of regular albums are now listed here and no longer in the former yearly Promo sections. |

Thanks to the "Isis"
newsletter for news that Columbia Records announced on 25 Aug 2009 that Bob is
actually releasing a Christmas album to be called Christmas In The Heart,
to be sold in aid of the charity "Feeding America". Thanks Paul S. Levine
for information that it was recorded at Jackson Browne's Groove Masters
studio in Santa Monica, CA, in May and Jun 2009. For more information, see
bobdylan.com here:
.
Thanks to Éamonn Ó Catháin for information that there will be a
deluxe edition with five Christmas cards!
Thanks to Sonny Boy McFitzson for information that the Japanese release, Sony Music SICP 2477, 25 Nov 2009, will be the deluxe edition only, there will be no standard edition. The price will be ¥2,520 (¥2,400 before sales tax).
Of course, this brings back memories of the spoof 1960s Christmas album Snow Over Interstate 80, see here.
The album artwork was designed by Coco Shinomiya, who also designed the
artwork for Together Through Life. The front cover illustration is public
domain artwork courtesy of
VisualLanguage.com. The photo in the centre of the folded insert is by
Leonard Freed, sourced from Magnum Photos, who also provided the cover photo for
Together Through Life. The rear insert picture of the Three Magi is by Edwin Fotheringham. The alluring "Miss Santa" on the reverse of the front insert is American
1950s pin-up Bettie Page, drawn by noted "pin-up artist" Olivia de
Berardinis. For more pictures of Bettie, who sadly died in Dec 2008, see her
web-site, www.bettiepage.com. For

The five greetings cards are blank inside and have plain white envelopes. The design on the rear of each greeting card repeats the information that artist royalties are being given to the "World Food Programme", as the mainland Europe, Hong Kong and Korean releases. Bill Hester says this limited edition has not so far been on sale in New Zealand, only the standard release above.

Contrary to previous reports, there is a standard Japanese edition, with the same catalogue number and obi price as the limited edition above (which has now sold out). The only difference is the obi, which is missing the Japanese text about the greetings cards (compare the two detail scans). There is a 32-page stapled booklet in English and Japanese. The slipcase, greetings cards and envelopes are not included.
