Track listing of review copies: Beyond Here Lies Nothin'; Life Is Hard; My Wife's Home Town; Forgetful Heart; Shake Shake Mama; I Feel A Change Coming On; If You Ever Go To Houston; This Dream Of You, It's All Good. The tenth released track, Jolene, was not included on the review copies. Chicago After Dark was included on the copy of the album made available to Bill Flanagan and is discussed during the interview included in the liner notes. There are reportedly two other out-takes not included in the final album.
Final track listing: Beyond Here Lies Nothin' (Bob Dylan/Robert Hunter); Life Is Hard (Bob Dylan/Robert Hunter); My Wife's Home Town (Bob Dylan/Willie Dixon); If You Ever Go To Houston (Bob Dylan/Robert Hunter); Forgetful Heart (Bob Dylan/Robert Hunter); Jolene (Bob Dylan/Robert Hunter); This Dream Of You (Bob Dylan), Shake Shake Mama (Bob Dylan/Robert Hunter); I Feel A Change Coming On (Bob Dylan/Robert Hunter); It's All Good (Bob Dylan/Robert Hunter).
The album is produced by Jack Frost (Bob's pseudonym). Musicians include members of his touring band, Mike Campbell from The Heartbreakers and David Hidalgo from Los Lobos on accordion. My Wife's Home Town is apparently a rewrite of Willie Dixon's I Just Want To Make Love To You and Willie is credited. Beyond Here Lies Nothin' is said to be based on All Your Love by Otis Rush. All the songs except My Wife's Home Town and This Dream Of You have been written in association with Robert Hunter, the Grateful Dead lyricist who collaborated with Bob in the 1980s with Silvio and The Ugliest Girl In The World, both from Down In The Groove.
The first single was Beyond Here Lies Nothin', followed by a radio edit of I Feel A Change Coming On.
Revised 06 April, 2010.
Vinyl Releases
"Together Through Life" - 180gm stereo vinyl 2LP set, Columbia 88697-43893-1 (USA), 28 Apr 2009; Sony Music 88697-43893-1 (Europe), 27 Apr 2009:
The reverse of the inner sleeve for record 1 is plain black. The European rear sleeve has the "Sony Music" logo and text next to the barcode, but the record labels do not. The CD is the standard European or US single-CD release and is in a plain white paper sleeve with a cut-out front to reveal the CD design.
The US vinyl release has slight differences from the European release. The front sticker has identical text but the lines separating the text elements are correctly positioned whereas on the European sticker they appear to have been printed too high. On the rear sleeve there is no "Sony Music" text and logo near to the bar code at lower right, and the bar code number has hyphens, while the European bar code doesn't. Gerd Rundel has a sealed promo copy with a white promotional sticker with blue text on the rear of the sleeve.
Both the US and the European releases are available in Australia as imports.
Thanks to Fred Muller, Anke and Gerd Rundel and Peter Lindberg for information and scans.
Deluxe Edition: 2CD+DVD
"Together Through Life" - 2CD+DVD release, Columbia 88697 51697 2 (USA), 28 Apr 2009; Sony Music 88697516972 (Europe), 27 Apr 2009:
![]() Sony Music 88697516972 (Europe) - front of box with sticker, scan by Jean-Pol Hiernaux |
The three-disc Deluxe Edition is in a stiff card box, not in a corduroy box as originally reported. The CD itself is in a jewel case, and is identical to that of the Standard Edition except for the catalogue numbers on the inserts and disc. The bonus discs with the Deluxe Edition include the "Friends & Neighbors" show from Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour and a DVD with "The Lost Interview" by Roy Silver including the original Witmark demo of Blowin' In The Wind (R-0776, see 2007). Thanks to Paul Tillman for pointing out that even though R-0776 is listed on the DVD menu (see below), it cannot actually be selected (it's part of the Roy Silver interview running from 7:37 to 10:07). If this is a limited edition R-0776 will remain a rarity. Thanks to Freddy Ordóñez Araque for finding the picture and to Jean-Pol Hiernaux, Jim Paboucek, Ronald Born and Moise Potie for scans. Only the differences between the US release and the European release are shown - the main difference is that the "Sony Music" logo is missing from all the artwork and the discs of the US release, as is the European "E" (Exempt) classification of the DVD. Thanks to Jens Winter for spotting that David Hidalgo's name is mis-spelled "Hildago" on all releases except the Polish single CD release below. |
