Dylan (2007)
|
This page is part of a list of original releases by release date of international commercially-released regular stereo Dylan albums. They do not contain rarities or obscurities and are not eligible for the Searching For A Gem list. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo releases of regular albums are now listed here and no longer in the former yearly Promo sections. |

Columbia/Legacy 88697 16131 2 (Austria for Europe) - front with sticker (my copy) |
This 18-track sampler CD comes with a 16-page stapled
booklet.
The 2-track bonus CD with the 2007 Mark Ronson remix of Most Likely You Go
Your Way (And I'll Go Mine) were

Thanks to Ian Woodward for the scan of the UK promo copy, with a white
circular promo sticker covering the barcode on the rear insert. The Australian release has the same catalogue number as the US and European releases, but the CDs and inserts are made in Australia. The CDs have different text placement from the European release, particularly on the bonus disc. The picture under the CD tray is of a rarity, the A-side of the Columbia US promo 7" single with Like A Rolling Stone split over two sides, see 1965. Thanks to Stuart Moore for information and scan of the Australian release. |

European DVD What Defines A True Icon?, photo by Hervé from France |
This media presentation promo set is housed in a hard plastic wallet and
has a CD-R of the single 18-track single Dylan CD as below plus a
DVD-R called "What Defines A True Icon?" lasting around 3 minutes of photos, snippets of video clips and album
covers. The video material was also available separately as a true DVD in
Europe (see VHS & DVD 2000s Part 4), thanks to Hervé from France for the
photo. It's possible that "Icon" was the provisional title for this project. Thanks to Tim Dunn for finding this on eBay. |
"Dylan" - promo single CD-R, Columbia/Legacy 88697 05928 2 (UK), Sep 2007:
Ian Woodward says there was also a more intriguing promo: "It is in a white plastic envelope with a plain paper insert that gives the title, the track listing and the promotional copy stuff. The title is given over two lines: "Bob Dylan" at the top and "Icon" below that. The tracks are the same 18 tracks as on the regular CD - except the tracks are in chronological order, so that "Forever Young" is Track 13 and the rest shuffle down to "Someday Baby" as Track 18. The CD is a plain silver disc with "Bob Dylan" in the top line and "Icon" as the second line, both in the top half of the disc. To the right of the centre hole are the promotional lines. I wonder if this second promo is in fact an early version of this release. This whole project was instigated and managed by Sony in London." According to Ian, "Icon" was the originally proposed title of the 3CD set.
"Dylan" - single CD, Columbia/Legacy 88697 15349 2 (USA); Columbia/Legacy 88697 05928 2 (Canada/Europe), 1 Oct 2007:
![]() Columbia/Legacy 88697 15349 2 (USA) - front of digipak with sticker, scan by Arie de Reus |
This 18-track sampler CD has a 16-page booklet. By way of
compensation for not having a bonus disc, there is an insert offering the
purchaser a free download of the 2007 Mark Ronson "Re-Version"
remix of Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine) from Blonde On
Blonde, see 2007. The US release is in a
digipak with a black/red CD, whereas the Canadian release is in a standard
jewel case with a red/black CD. The picture under the CD tray is of a rarity, the A-side of the Columbia US promo 7" single with Like A Rolling Stone split over two sides, see 1965. Thanks to Arie de Reus and Jack from Canada for information and scans. |

"Dylan: The Best" - single CD, Sony Music SICP 1556 (Japan), 24 Oct 2007:
Thanks to Sonny Boy McFitzson for the scan of a promo CD with track listing in Japanese. Although the track listing is the same as the other worldwide releases, on the disc itself Someday Baby is incorrectly positioned as track 13 between Knockin' On Heaven's Door and Tangled Up In Blue. Make You Feel My Love is possibly a remix of the Time Out of Mind version with the vocals and piano stronger. This remix first occurred on the Victoria's Secret exclusive US compilation Lovesick, see 2004. Confusingly, the version on the 3CD Japanese boxed set is the Time Out of Mind original mix!
"Dylan" - single CD, Columbia/Legacy 88697463242 (Austria for Europe), 9 Mar 2009:
"All Time Best" - compilation CD, Sony Music 88697850802 (Germany), 5 Apr 2011:
Thanks to Éamonn Ó Catháin and Dr. Hanns Peter Bushoff for information and to Gerd Rundel for scans.
