This is the sixth part of a separate multi-year list by release date of international (now including the USA, which was once listed separately) promo and commercially-released stereo 7" and 12" singles, EPs and CD singles that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only performances which are available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know many are not included on any other Internet site. Special thanks to Hans Seegers for many of these items! Stereo promo versions of commercially released singles and singles released exclusively for promotional purposes that were formerly listed in the Promotional Items sections of the yearly pages are now listed here. I would also like to include cassette singles here, but I don't have any, and none have been notified to me so far.
This page is still incomplete. If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to
existing entries, please let me know!
Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities -
see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the
dealers on my Trading page for assistance!
Revised 21 February, 2010.
1990
"Political World" - 7" & 12" vinyl singles, CBS 655643 7 (UK/NL)/CBS 655643 6 (UK/Australia), 29 Jan 1990:
The 7" and 12" singles have the same picture sleeve, the title track plus Ring Them Bells from Oh Mercy. The 12" single also has Silvio from Down In The Groove and All Along The Watchtower live from Dylan & The Dead.
All tracks are regular album versions. For the CD single with these tracks, see below.
Thanks to Patrick Helfrich for the scans of the UK 7" single and to Stuart Moore for scans of the Australian 7" single. Thanks to Hans Seegers for information that this Australian 7" single came in both promo and commercial generic sleeves, see 7" Single Sleeves. Thanks to Raoul Verolleman and Ulf Gyllenspetz for the photographs. For a 1989 Spanish promo single with this A-side, see International Singles 1987-89.
"Political World" - 5" CD single, CBS 655643 2 (UK/NL), Jan 1990:
"Political World" - 3" CD single, CBS 655643 3 (Austria for UK and NL), Jan 1990:
This single in a folded card sleeve inside a plastic wallet used the Dutch 7" single front photo and contained the title track plus Ring Them Bells from Oh Mercy, Silvio from Down In The Groove and All Along The Watchtower (live) from Dylan And The Dead. It was manufactured in Austria, as stated on the CD, for release in the UK and Holland.
Thanks to Jack from Canada and Gerd Rundel for information and scans.
"Political World" - picture 5" CD single, CBS 655643 5 (UK), Jan 1990:
![]() CBS 655643 5 (UK) - front insert scan by Gerd Rundel |
This CD single is unusual in that it has a different
tracklist from the other UK singles while still using the "655643" catalogue number:
The front insert of Christopher Dunn's copy is omitted so the picture CD, which has a crop of the Oh Mercy front picture, is on view in the jewel case. Gerd Rundel's copy has a front insert of a single card, with a different front design from the regular CD single. The reverse of the front insert has this second track list. For other UK CD and vinyl singles with the "655643" catalogue number with Ring Them Bells, Silvio and a live version of All Along The Watchtower, see above. Thanks to Alex from Brazil for pointing out this eBay item to me, to Christopher Dunn and Gerd Rundel for scans and to Donald Mitchell for correcting the tracklist. |

|
CBS 656304 7 (NL) - front scan (7" single, title under Bob's name, my copy) |
This single contained the title track and 10.000 Men from Under The
Red Sky. The Dutch single has a slightly different picture sleeve (crop
of the Under The Red Sky album photo, same as the
3" singles below, and has the song title handwritten. The 12" single, with the same cover as the 7" single, contained the title track and 10,000 Men from Under The Red Sky plus Jokerman from Infidels. I previously listed this as from Holland. Hans Seegers informs me it was indeed manufactured at the CBS processing plant in Heemstrede, Holland, but was exported from there to Scandinavia, Switzerland and Greece - it was not actually available in Holland except as an import! |

![]() CBS 656304 7 (NL) - promo letter sent to Germany with copies of 7" single |
||
| The UK 7" single, like the UK CD single, has the full album cover picture, with
the song title in a typeface rather than handwritten. On the CD single it's in
the same position as on the Dutch singles, but on the 7" single it's at the
bottom! The rear sleeve has a different crop of the album picture omitting Bob.
Thanks to Nol Grint for a "CBS-Blitzinformation" promo letter sent out
with the Dutch single from Holland to German addresses. The Australian 7" release, CBS 656304 7, came in both promo and commercial generic sleeves, see 7" Single Sleeves. It has orange/yellow CBS labels. For a 1990 Unbelievable single-track US promo CD single, see above. For commercial Unbelievable CD singles, see below. Thanks to Alan Hoaksey for initial
information. Thanks to Hans Seegers for

"Knockin' On Heaven's Door" - CD single from "MTV Unplugged", Columbia COL 662190 2 (France/NL), Jun 1995:
This CD single was manufactured in Austria for the French and Dutch markets. It is in a thin CD single jewel case with a sticker advertising Bob's tour in June/July 1995. There is a single folded insert, white on the reverse. The other tracks on the CD were The Times They Are A-Changin', also from MTV Unplugged; Hurricane from Desire and Changing Of The Guards (original 1978 Street-Legal version, 30 seconds shorter than 1999 version). Hurricane and Changing of The Guards came from Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. 3 (shown on the rear cover).
This is the only CD single released after 1990 that hasn't contained rare tracks! (The replaced version of Changing Of The Guards can still be found on CD on 1994's Greatest Hits Vol. 3, so it's not a rarity.)
