This is the sixth part of a separate multi-year list by release date of international (now including the USA, which was once listed separately) promo and commercially-released stereo 7" and 12" singles, EPs and CD singles that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only performances which are available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know many are not included on any other Internet site. Special thanks to Hans Seegers for many of these items! Stereo promo versions of commercially released singles that were formerly listed in the Promotional Items sections of the yearly pages are now listed here. I would also like to include cassette singles here, but I don't have any, and none have been notified to me so far.

For singles released exclusively for promotional purposes, see International Promotional Releases.

This page is still incomplete. If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

The 7" and 12" singles have the same picture sleeve, the title track plus Ring Them Bells from Oh Mercy. The 12" single also has Silvio from Down In The Groove and All Along The Watchtower live from Dylan & The Dead.

All tracks are regular album versions. For the CD single with these tracks, see below.

Thanks to Hans Seegers for information that this Australian 7" single came in both promo and commercial generic sleeves, see  7" Single Sleeves. This single in a card sleeve contained the title track and Ring Them Bells from Oh Mercy, Silvio from Down In The Groove and All Along The Watchtower (live) from Dylan And The Dead. It was manufactured in the UK, but also released in Holland.

For a picture CD single, see below. Thanks to Alan Hoaksey for the initial information and to Hans Seegers for further information and scans.

"Political World" - 3" CD single, CBS 655643 3 (UK/NL), Jan 1990:

CBS 655643 3 (UK/NL) - outside of card sleeve, scan by Jack from Canada
This single in a folded card sleeve used the Dutch 7" single front photo and contained the title track and Ring Them Bells from Oh Mercy, Silvio from Down In The Groove and All Along The Watchtower (live) from Dylan And The Dead. It was manufactured in the UK, but also released in Holland. Thanks to Jack from Canada for the information and scans.

All the tracks listed (title track; Caribbean Wind; You're A Big Girl Now; It's All Over Now, Baby Blue) are the regular album versions. Thanks to Alex from Brazil for pointing out this eBay item to me and to Christopher Dunn for providing scans (the front insert is omitted so the picture CD is on view in the jewel case).

For the regular CD single in a card sleeve, see above.  There was also a 12" single version with the same tracks, CBS 655643 6 (see above)

"Unbelievable"/"10,000 Men" - 7" & 12" singles, CBS 656304 7/CBS 656304 6 (NL/Various European countries/Australia), Sep 1990:

Unbelievable7NLFront.JPG (36386 bytes)
CBS 656304 7 (NL) - front scan (title under Bob's name, my copy)
This single contained the title track and 10.000 Men from Under The Red Sky. The Dutch single has a slightly different picture sleeve (crop of the Under The Red Sky album photo, same as the 3" singles below, and has the song title handwritten.

The 12" single, with the same cover as the 7" single, contained the title track and 10,000 Men from Under The Red Sky plus Jokerman from Infidels. I previously listed this as from Holland. Hans Seegers informs me it was indeed manufactured at the CBS processing plant in Heemstrede, Holland, but was exported from there to Scandinavia, Switzerland and Greece - it was not actually available in Holland except as an import!

The UK 7" single, like the UK CD single, has the full album cover picture, with the song title in a typeface rather than handwritten. On the CD single it's in the same position as on the Dutch singles, but on the 7" single it's at the bottom! The rear sleeve has a different crop of the album picture omitting Bob.

The Australian 7" release, CBS 656304 7, came in both promo and commercial generic sleeves, see  7" Single Sleeves. It has orange/yellow CBS labels.

For a 1990 Unbelievable single-track US promo CD single, see Promotional Singles 1990-1999. For commercial Unbelievable CD singles, see below.

back_pages_insert.jpg (47833 bytes)
Columbia 659767 2 (Australia) - CD single insert scan by Sam C. Visser (both variants)
This three-track Australian CD single, with the same cover picture as the US promo single above, has the 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration version of My Back Pages, plus Knockin' On Heaven's Door from the same concert, and the original album version of My Back Pages from Another Side Of Bob Dylan.

Thanks to Sam C. Visser for the information that there were two different releases of this single. They were both in a thin CD single jewel case with an identical folded insert. The CDs themselves were quite different: the first credits "BOB DYLAN" in bold type, while the second has "MY BACK PAGES" in bold type and credits "VARIOUS ARTISTS". The text below the centre is laid out completely differently.

Neale Judd has a promo copy of 659767 2 with a gold promo stamp with "DEMONSTRATION ONLY NOT FOR SALE" on the inside of the insert. The CD itself is the second variant credited to "VARIOUS ARTISTS".

Thanks to Hans Seegers, Espen Aas, Sam C. Visser and Neale Judd for information and scans and to Hervé from France for the photo.

Columbia COL 662190 2 (France/NL) - front with tour sticker, scan by Hans Seegers

This CD single was manufactured in Austria for the French and Dutch markets. It is in a thin CD single jewel case with a sticker advertising Bob's tour in June/July 1995. There is a single folded insert, white on the reverse. The other tracks on the CD were The Times They Are A-Changin', also from MTV Unplugged; Hurricane from Desire and Changing Of The Guards (original 1978 Street-Legal version, 30 seconds shorter than 1999 version). Hurricane and Changing of The Guards came from Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. 3 (shown on the rear cover).

This is the only CD single released after 1990 that hasn't contained rare tracks! (The replaced version of Changing Of The Guards can still be found on CD on 1994's Greatest Hits Vol. 3, so it's not a rarity.)

Thanks to Hans Seegers and Franck Faugere for information and to Hans Seegers for scans.

Picture from Getty Museum web-site

This book by a senior member of the staff of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles combines the lyrics of Bob Dylan's Desolation Row with images from the painting by James Ensor "Christ's Entry into Brussels in 1889". The book includes a reproduction of the entire painting as well as a single track CD with the Highway 61 Revisited studio version of the song (Columbia A 30657). The CD is sealed in a plastic sleeve inside the book's rear cover.
