Open gatefold sleeve of UK "Souvenir Edition" 7" single of Highway 61 Revisited from the
Real Live album, 1984
This is the fifth part of a separate multi-year list by release date of international (now including the USA, which was once listed separately) promo and commercially-released stereo 7" and 12" singles that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only performances which are available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know many are not included on any other Internet site. Special thanks to Hans Seegers for many of these items! Stereo promo versions of commercially released singles that were formerly listed in the Promotional Items sections of the yearly pages are now listed here. I would also like to include cassette singles here, but I don't have any, and none have been notified to me so far.
This page is still incomplete. If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to
existing entries, please let me know!
Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities -
see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the
dealers on my Trading page for assistance!
Revised 25 February, 2010.

"Sweetheart Like You"/"License To Kill" - 7" single, CBS A4175 (NL/Norway), Jan 1984:
"Jokerman"/"License To Kill" - 7" promo and commercial singles, CBS A 4055 (UK/Spain), Apr 1984:
![]() CBS A4055 (UK) - front scan by Kenneth Robson |
The promo singles have a 4:30 edit of the A-side (R-0161), for full
details see 1984. The Jokerman song length is misprinted as 4:00 but it is actually 4:30 (I played it and timed it!). I can only assume that the intention was to use the US 4:05 edit, see the US promo single below. |

The commercial singles have the full album version from Infidels (6:12). The UK rear sleeve lists UK dates for the 1984 tour. The commercial record occurs in three variants: two have paper labels, and the third has orange/brown injection labels. The first variant with paper labels has only "BOB DYLAN" set vertically to the left of the centre hole, the second has extra text below the name.
Thanks to Hans Seegers, David Burgess and Kenneth Robson for information and scans.

in the top right hand corner. For a Columbia and CBS 7" promo
singles with an edit of this song as the A-side, see 1985. Information from Alan Hoaksey. |

This one-sided single has the album track from Empire Burlesque (5:20) on the A-side. It has white promo labels and a blank label on the B-side. Stuart Moore's copy came in a black CBS sleeve, although Hans Seegers says the promo single was normally found in the commercial single sleeve with a promo stamp as shown. For a 1986 Spanish one-sided promo single, see below.

Over" - 7" promo and commercial singles, CBS A 6303 (UK/NL/Spain), 24 May 1985:
For the Tight Connection video release on laserdisc, see the VHS & DVD
1980s page.
|
This single was previously on the 1985 page, because the A-side was reported to be a single edit. However, these commercial 7" singles do not contain a rarity because the song is 5:20, identical to the Empire Burlesque album track. For the singles that do have the 3:45 edited version, see 1985. The B-side of this single was We Better Talk This Over, the regular album track from 1978's Street-Legal (a strange choice, another track from Empire Burlesque would have been expected). Other countries where this single was released with the 5.20 version: Holland, Italy regular and jukebox promo, Mexico, Spain regular and promo, USA regular and South Africa regular- more information/catalogue numbers and scans required! Also there is a 12" USA promo single with the 5:20 version both sides. Thanks to Patrick Helfrich for scans of the Italian regular single. |

because it has "LP" in the sleeve catalogue number. (The catalogue number is
"SAMP LP 1052" on the rear sleeve but only "SAMP 1052" on the record
labels.) Full details are in
