This is the third part of a separate multi-year list by release date of commercially-released stereo Dylan-only compilation albums (including Greatest Hits albums with non-standard tracklists) that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only performances which are all available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Thanks to Hans Seegers for all the exclusive CBS Japanese releases, etc.!

See the Promotional Albums pages of  International Promotional Releases for promo-only Dylan compilation albums. Other International Compilations are now here:

Bob Dylan Compilations

For the other parts of this list, see the links above. This list now includes albums with the title Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits (various Volumes) with non-standard tracklists. For Greatest Hits albums with the standard US tracklists see International Albums (Regular). There are also several international Bob Dylan compilation albums such as The Essential Bob Dylan which contain rarities in the main Searching For A Gem list.

"Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" - stereo LP, Amiga 8 55 680 (German Democratic Republic, East Germany), 1980:

DDRGH1Front.jpg (18894 bytes)
Amiga 8 55 680 (East Germany) - front scan by Hans Seegers

This rare album is the only widely available commercial release from East Germany - the 1967 mono Bob Dylan album release, see Mono Album Releases, was for a record club only. It has the same tracklist as the Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits album released in Holland in 1966 (different again from the US and UK versions of the album), and uses a variant of the cover (shown below for comparison). It was printed at the Amiga pressing plant in East Berlin, under licence from CBS Records and has a fragile unlaminated cover. The album was re-released in 1989 with the original dark purple labels replaced by blue.

All information and scans from Hans Seegers.

"Presença De Bob Dylan [The Presence Of Bob Dylan]" - 2LP set, Discos CBS 138.750/1 (Brazil), 1987:

PresencaBrazFront.JPG (22789 bytes)
Discos CBS 138.750/1 (Brazil) - front (my copy)
This was a 24-track 2LP set, unique to Brazil, containing a very strange selection of previously-released material, including six songs from Self Portrait and four from New Morning. The two records are in plain sleeves inside a single outer sleeve, not gatefold. According to Alexandre Froemming it was part of a series with the Presença title of "Best of" CBS collections with different coloured sleeves featuring many popular Brazilian and international artists, and several of these are shown on an insert.

Side 1: Blowin' In The Wind; Lay, Lady, Lay; Tombstone Blues; Ballad Of A Thin Man; Highway 61 Revisited; I'll Be Your Baby Tonight.

Side 2: Mr. Tambourine Man; Just Like A Woman; All The Tired Horses; Early Mornin' Rain; Little Sadie; Living The Blues.

Side 3: Like A Rolling Stone; Day Of The Locusts; If Dogs Run Free; Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues; Blue Moon; Minstrel Boy.

Side 4: If Not For You; Don't Think Twice, It's All Right; Hurricane; Queen Jane Approximately; The Man In Me; Subterranean Homesick Blues.

The records have orange/red Discos CBS labels, and are numbered CBS 138.750 and CBS 138.751.

Thanks to Alexandre Froemming for this album! Thanks to Nol Grint for the scan of a different record label design.

"More Bob Dylan Greatest Hits" - stereo 2LP set, CBS S 67239 (NL), 1987:

MGHNLFront.jpg (27541 bytes)
CBS S 67239 (NL) - front scan (title in blue circle) (my copy)

This Dutch album is a reissue of the 1971 UK More Bob Dylan Greatest Hits album with the same catalogue number (see International Album Releases (Dylan-only Compilations) 1970s). The front picture is a lighter blue than the UK release. On the front cover the title "MORE BOB DYLAN GREATEST HITS" is still in white, but in a different type face, and enclosed in a blue circle with a dark blue border. On the UK cover the title is superimposed directly over the picture. The records themselves are in plain white paper sleeves with red CBS labels with matrix numbers:
Side 1 - "NL" (stamped) "R" (written) "01-67239-2A-1" (stamped)
Side 2 - "01-67239-2B-1" (stamped)
Side 3 - "01-67239-C" (written)
Side 4 - "01-67239-D" (written)

Unlike the UK set, which had an inside pocket to hold both records, this release has two openings on the outside edges of the gatefold sleeve for the records, so one goes in each side of the sleeve.

Holland of course had its own three Greatest Hits albums from the 1960s (all on the 1960s page of this list). On the tracklisting on the rear cover, the two tracks which are exclusive to the UK release, Positively 4th St. and New Morning, are clearly whiter than the other listed tracks. This is not true of the 1971 UK release, and implies the cover artwork for this release was sourced from the USA and modified.
