This page is part of a new section of original releases by release date of international commercially-released regular stereo Dylan albums. They do not contain rarities or obscurities and are not eligible for the Searching For A Gem list. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo releases of regular albums are now listed here and not in the yearly Promo sections. This page is still incomplete - more international releases of this set required. |

Original US stereo 5LP boxed set, Columbia C5X 38830, 7 Nov 1985 (also available as 3 cassettes, CXT 38830). The CD edition, Columbia C3K 38830, was released in Jan 1986. This original boxed set contains a rarity, R-0748, an alternate take of Mixed Up Confusion that has now been replaced on the current CD reissue by the original single. The 1985 releases are therefore also listed in 1985. A remastered CD reissue was released with mistakes in Aug 1997 and corrected in Oct 1997. The recalled edition is therefore also listed in 1997. Thanks to Betsy for the poster scan - it has the text "C38830 (C) 1985 CBS Inc." and was given away with promotional copies of the US boxed set. Thanks also to Hans Seegers for information The centre picture is a 1965 photograph by Daniel Kramer. |

"Biograph" - 12" boxed set edition, 5LP set - Columbia C5X
38830 (USA)/CBS 20-66509 (UK); 3 cassette set - Columbia CXT
38830 (USA)/CBS 40-66509 (UK), Nov 1985/CBS 66509 (NL), late 1980s:
This set was first released on 5 LPs or 3 cassettes - each LP was in a
picture sleeve with song notes. In the cassette edition and in the slightly
later CD edition the LP sleeves were included as a second 12" booklet. They
are all shown below for the Australian 5LP release along with all ten record
labels. The CD edition was released in 1986 in a 12" square box and later in a 12" x 6" box in
the USA (scans required). On the 12" US square box the top is hinged on the
left, not separate as the UK box.

"Biograph" - recalled 3CD jewel case edition, Columbia C3K
65298 (USA), Aug 1997:
This edition, which had to be recalled because of the mistakes listed below, was
released in the USA only, reportedly in a run of 5,000 copies. The first run of
the Oct 1997 corrected edition has the same catalogue number, C3K 65298. Apparently the recalled
Biograph can be identified from the corrected reissue without breaking the seal, because the grey on the cover
is a true grey, whereas the corrected release has a reddish tinge
to the grey. This is not true of the UK release, Columbia 488099 2 (see below),
which was the corrected version from the outset, and where the grey on the cover
is definitely a true grey, so I can't personally confirm this.
