UK "Limited Edition Special 12" Single" of Baby Stop Crying,
1978
This is part of a separate multi-year list by release date of international (now including the USA, which was once listed separately) promo and commercially-released stereo 7" and 12" singles and EPs for 1977-79 that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only performances which are available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know many are not included on any other Internet site. Special thanks to Hans Seegers for many of these items! Stereo promo versions of commercially released singles that were formerly listed in the Promotional Items sections of the yearly pages are now listed here. I would also like to include cassette singles here, but I don't have any, and none have been notified to me so far.
This page is still incomplete. If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to
existing entries, please let me know!
Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities -
see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the
dealers on my Trading page for assistance!
Revised 12 April, 2008.

Both tracks were the standard album versions from Street-Legal. For a promo release of this single with a 4:17 edit of the A-side (this single has it as 5:17), see 1978. The single was also released as a promo with a "DEMONSTRATION - NOT FOR SALE" stamp on the B-side over the "COLUMBIA" logo. For worldwide commercial releases of this single with the same two tracks, see below. Information and scans from Hans Seegers. |

![]() CBS 6697 (West Germany) - front scan by Hans Seegers (promo release) |
Both tracks are the regular versions from Street-Legal. The West German promo in the "CBS-Blitzinformation" sleeve is the only Dylan promo with this orange/yellow design. For the sleeves of the various West German promo singles with the previous red/white promo design, see yearly pages from 1971 onwards. Thanks to Hans Seegers for the information that my copy (shown below) was made in Heemstede, Holland, but not actually sold in that country. It was distributed Europe-wide to countries that didn't release their own local version. He says: "Your 'Dutch' rear sleeve was never released in Holland. It was made in Heemstede, Holland, but only for export to all European countries who did not made it themselves and ordered it from CBS International in Heemstede. Your rear sleeve comes with a sticker "CB 111" over the printed "EC (in a circle)"." Máximo Díaz Peña has a Spanish copy of CBS 6697 in a plain white sleeve. It is mislabelled in that it has the same A-side label on both sides, even though the vinyl plays correctly. Hans Seegers informs me there are two label variants:
The
mislabelled single is of the first type. For the variants, see below. |
