Bob Dylan with the Rolling Thunder Revue - Hard Rain
|
This page is part of a list of original releases by release date of international commercially-released regular stereo Dylan albums. They do not contain rarities or obscurities and are not eligible for the Searching For A Gem list. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo releases of regular albums are now listed here and no longer in the former yearly Promo sections. This page is still incomplete - more entries required. For releases of this album in CBS/Columbia multi-packs, see International Album Releases (Regular) - Multi-Packs. |

The Dutch album has a lyric insert sheet and the record has orange/yellow CBS labels and a paper inner sleeve. Hans Seegers has a copy of the first release where the labels omit the text "Produced by Don DeVito and Bob Dylan". This was a misprint and was corrected by CBS. Gerd Rundel has a copy of this album bought as part of a French set from 1978 with Blood On The Tracks and Desire, see International Album Releases (Multi-Packs) 1970s. The set has an outer sleeve to hold all three albums that was printed in France, although the records themselves were made in Holland. The rear of the album sleeve has "Y" in a white circle and "III" in a green circle at top right and "LC 0149" in a green capsule at bottom left, missing from the 1976 sleeves. The record in this set has orange/yellow labels, with a star above the side number to the left of the centre hole. It has stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 - S-86016-1A1, Side 2 - S-86016-1-B1. It comes in an inner sleeve printed with the lyrics that has exactly the same design as the lyrics insert. The Greek record also has orange/yellow labels and surprisingly has no matrix numbers. Scans required! Thanks to Hans Seegers and Kenneth Robson for information and scans. |

Bob Dylan/The Rolling Thunder Revue - "Fuerte Lluvia [Hard Rain]" - stereo vinyl LP releases, CBS S 86016 (Spain), Nov 1976; CBS 55882 (Spain), 1977:

CBS S 86016 (Spain) -
detail of rear, scan by Manuel Garcia Jara (Mick Ronson and ASCAP text missing)

CBS S 86016 (Spain) -
spine scan by Manuel Garcia Jara ("Fuerte Lluvia" and "S 86016")
The sleeve is fully laminated without the CBS logo on the front. The rear sleeve has the CBS logo at bottom right. It does not mention that Mick Ronson plays guitar on "Maggie's Farm" as other international releases of this album do, nor the ASCAP copyright (a detail of the Dutch sleeve is shown for comparison). The spine and record labels have the translated title "Fuerte Lluvia". This album has a lyrics sheet in English with the new lyrics of "Lay, Lady, Lay". The record has orange/yellow CBS labels with the album title in Spanish and song titles in Spanish and English. Shelter From The Storm is correctly translated as "Cobijo Contra La Tormenta", while all the Spanish editions of Blood On The Tracks have the incorrect translation of "Cobijo Contra La Lluvia [Shelter From The Rain]". The record of the copy shown has matrix numbers: Side 1 - AL 34349-1A, Side 2 - BL 34349-1A.
The record has orange/yellow CBS labels with "ESPECIAL" above "BOB DYLAN" and the album title, as well as the new catalogue number. The album title is translated as "Fuerte Lluvia" on the record labels and the sleeve spine, which also has the new catalogue number. The record of the copy shown has the same matrix numbers as above: Side 1 - AL 34349-1A, Side 2 - BL 34349-1A.
Thanks to Manuel Garcia Jara for information and scans.

Bob Dylan/The Rolling Thunder Revue - "Hard Rain" - stereo vinyl LP release, CBS 86016 (Portugal), Nov 1976, reissued early 1980s:
The 1976 record has orange/yellow CBS labels, the colours on both sides being the same. On Side 1 Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again has a minimal gap between the two lines of the song title. On Side 2 Shelter From The Storm is spelled correctly, unlike on the 1980s Side 2 label. The 1976 record shown has matrix numbers: Side 1 - AL 34349-2B, Side 2 - BL 34349-2A.
The 1980s record also has orange/yellow CBS labels, the colour on Side 2 is noticeably stronger than on Side 1. The copyright text round the bottom edges is completely different from the 1976 record labels. On Side 1 Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again has a wide gap between the two lines of the song title. On Side 2 Shelter From The Storm is misspelled "Shelther From The Storm". The record shown has both handwritten and stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 - CBS-86016-A (handwritten) AL 34349-2B (stamped, USA matrix number), Side 2 - CBS-86016-B (handwritten) BL 34349-2A (stamped, USA matrix number).
Thanks to Manuel Garcia Jara and Gerd Rundel for information and scans.

Bob Dylan/The Rolling Thunder Revue - "Hard Rain" - CD release, Columbia CK 34349 (USA), mid-1980s:
This was the first US CD release of this title. The CD has a folded front insert with minimal information. Gil Lamont says: "This first release is incorrectly indexed. Oh, Sister doesn't end until around 1:04 of Lay, Lady, Lay. The timings listed on the inserts are accurate for this incorrect indexing. Although the indexing was corrected in the later Nice Price reissue -- Oh, Sister timing out at 5:08 and Lay, Lady, Lay timing out at 4:47 -- oddly enough the printed timings on the later insert have not been corrected."
