"Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again"/"Rita May"
- 7" single,
S CBS 48659 (UK)/CBS 4859 (Spain), Jan 1977:
For USA/European Nov 1976 releases of this single, see 1976.
The UK single (S CBS 4859) is a mystery! The sleeve clearly shows Stuck
Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again as the A-side, but there is
actually no 7" record like that in existence. All the singles that were
released - a promo and three different commercial pressings - have Rita
May as the A-side. There is no UK picture sleeve showing Rita
May as the A-side.

R-0130-4 Rita May
(Bob Dylan/Jacques Levy)
Desire out-take, recorded Jul 1975, lyrics on bobdylan.com R-0130 is also on the 1978 Japanese/Australian compilation Masterpieces, (see 1978) and on two limited edition Japanese CD releases, Mr. D's Collection #3 (see 1993) and Dylan Ga Rock (see 1993 and 2010). R-0130 appeared on the Sony Music Bob Dylan Custom Mix CD web-site, Apr 2003, see Online Performances (Other). It was also one of the 42 rarities included for download with the Aug 2006 Apple iTunes Bob Dylan Collection, also see Online Performances (Other). It is now also released on the 2010 version of Dylan Ga Rock (see 2010) |

R-0128-4 Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again: B-side of UK single, A-side of Spanish single - 3:35 edit of live version from the Hard Rain album
The Spanish CBS 4859 single, which occurs in two label variants, is dated 1977 on the rear sleeve and on all record labels. On the first label variant the producer credit under "B. Dylan - J. Levy) is "Producción de Don De Vito y Bob Dylan" - on the second variant this is reduced to "Prod. de Don De Vito y Bob Dylan".
Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans.
"Bob Dylan In Concerto" - 7" EP given away with issue
of "Gong" magazine, Gong 5A/6B (Italy), Mar 1977:
This EP was given away with the Mar 1977 issue of the Italian rock music magazine
"Gong". The rear of the sleeve is
plain white, Bob Dylan is not mentioned on the record labels. The sleeve states
that all the tracks were recorded live in Boston, MA - in fact none come from
there. There's some debate about whether this item should be classified as "Questionable", but
it was certainly sold legally in Italy at the time - the Side 1 label
has the approval stamp of "SIAE", the Italian copyright control organisation.
R-0131 Simple Twist of Fate - live from the John Hammond tribute programme, WWTW TV, Chicago, IL, 10 Sep 1975 - this version has rewritten lyrics
R-0132-2 Hurricane - live as R-0131, this is a splice of two performances. This had already appeared on a radio broadcast acetate, see 1975-76 Hurricane Singles
R-0133 Just Like a Woman - live with the Rolling Thunder Review, Providence, RI, 4 Nov 1975
R-0134 Knockin' on Heaven's Door - live as R-0133

Leonard Cohen - "Death Of A Ladies' Man" - stereo vinyl LP:
Warner Bros BS 3125 (USA)/Columbia
PC 44286 (USA); CBS 86042 (UK/West Germany); Prix D'Ami 32661 (France), Nov 1977;
CD: Columbia CK 44286 (USA), 1986; Columbia WCK 44286 (Canada), 1986; CBS CD 86042
(UK), 1995; Sony Records SRCS 6645 (Japan), 2000:
This album was initially released in
the USA by Warner Bros with catalogue number BS 3125, before being taken up by
Columbia and released worldwide. Scans of the US Columbia release required! For some reason
Leonard Cohen's book of prose and poetry released in 1978 is called "Death of a
Lady's Man". The edition shown is from André
Deutsch Ltd. (UK), 13 May 2010. Thanks to Harold Lepidus for information that
this album is being re-released on heavyweight vinyl in 2011 by San
Francisco-based vinyl reissues label record label 4 Men With Beards.

R-0135 Don't Go Home
With Your Hard On (Leonard Cohen) The back-up chorus to this song includes Allen Ginsberg, Ronee Blakley (from the Rolling Thunder Revue) and Clydie King (one of Bob's backing singers). This track was also released as the B-side of the single Memories in both complete and edited versions, see below. The Dec 1980 issue of UK "Record Collector" magazine reported in an article on Bob's 1970s recordings that Bob also appeared on this album uncredited on the track Iodine (see below), but I have not seen this confirmed anywhere else. Thanks to Jack from Canada for scans of the Canadian CD release. More scans of CD releases of this album required! Thanks to discogs.com for the pictures of the 1977 US Warner Bros release. |
