"Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again"/"Rita May" - 7" single, S CBS 48659 (UK)/CBS 4859 (Spain), Jan 1977:
For USA/European Nov 1976 releases of this single, see 1976. The UK single (S CBS 4859) is a mystery! The sleeve clearly shows Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again as the A-side, but there is actually no 7" record like that in existence. All the singles that were released - a promo and three different commercial pressings - have Rita May as the A-side. There is no UK picture sleeve showing Rita May as the A-side.

The Spanish CBS 4859 single, which occurs in two label variants, is dated 1977 on the rear sleeve and on all record labels. On the first label variant the producer credit under "B. Dylan - J. Levy) is "Producción de Don De Vito y Bob Dylan" - on the second variant this is reduced to "Prod. de Don De Vito y Bob Dylan".

"Bob Dylan In Concerto" - 7" EP given away with issue of "Gong" magazine, Gong 5A/6B (Italy), Mar 1977:
This EP was given away with the Mar 1977 issue of the Italian rock music magazine "Gong". The rear of the sleeve is plain white, Bob Dylan is not mentioned on the record labels. The sleeve states that all the tracks were recorded live in Boston, MA - in fact none come from there. There's some debate about whether this item should be classified as "Questionable", but it was certainly sold legally in Italy at the time - the Side 1 label has the approval stamp of "SIAE", the Italian copyright control organisation.

R-0131    Simple Twist of Fate - live from the John Hammond tribute programme, WWTW TV, Chicago, IL, 10 Sep 1975 - this version has rewritten lyrics

R-0132-2 Hurricane - live as R-0131, this is a splice of two performances. This had already appeared on a radio broadcast acetate, see 1975-76 Hurricane Singles

Leonard Cohen - "Death Of A Ladies' Man" - vinyl LP: Columbia PC 44286 (USA)/CBS 86042 (UK/West Germany)/Prix D'Ami 32661 (France), Nov 1977; CD: Columbia CK 44286 (USA), 1986/Columbia WCK 44286 (Canada), 1986/CBS CD 86042 (UK), 1995/Sony SRCS 6645 (Japan), 2000:
The catalogue number WB 3125 has been listed against this album for the USA, but as far as I know this album has always been released on Columbia, not Warner Brothers.

CBS 86042 (UK) - front  (the famous Suzanne is the woman on Leonard's Cohen's left) (my copy)
R-0135 Don't Go Home With Your Hard On (Leonard Cohen) - Bob contributes backup vocals to the chorus (full version 5:34)

The back-up chorus to this song includes Allen Ginsberg, Ronee Blakley (from the Rolling Thunder Revue) and Clydie King (one of Bob's backing singers). This track was also released as the B-side of the single Memories in both complete and edited versions, see below.

The Dec 1980 issue of UK "Record Collector" magazine reported in an article on Bob's 1970s recordings that Bob also appeared on this album uncredited on the track Iodine (see left), but I have not seen this confirmed anywhere else.

"Mr. D's Collection # 2" - promo stereo 7" EP, CBS/Sony YBPB 3 (Japan), Dec 1977:
This EP was also given away to Japanese fans in exchange for tokens collected from CBS/Sony albums, and has four songs that originally appeared on the limited edition LP Mr. D's Collection #1. Paradoxically, it commands a higher price to collectors than the LP! This LP was previously listed for 1977 also. However, Hans Seegers has confirmed it is definitely from 1974, so Mr. D's Collection #1 is now listed there. This EP was not released at the same time, but three years later. As can be seen, the rear of the picture sleeve features a 1976 Rolling Thunder Revue photograph. The front picture was originally used for the 1966 Dutch release of an album called Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits but with a non-standard tracklist see International Album Releases (Dylan-only Compilations).

R-0145-2 Mixed Up Confusion - alternate take (probably still mono), not 1962 US Columbia 7" single mono version
See 1974 for comments about the version on Mr. D's Collection # 1, and see 1962 for details of the four circulating versions of this song. This take also appears on the 1978 Australian 3LP set Masterpieces (see 1978), and in an edited form on the original 1985 issue of Biograph (R-0748, see 1985). Many thanks to Les Kokay for all his information about these alternate takes, and for permission to reproduce his findings and to Jean-Pol Hiernaux for further information.

R-0054-5 Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues- live at Liverpool, May 1966, B-side of I Want You single (see 1966)
This live version, never released on a regular Columbia album, is also on the Japanese promo LP Mr. D's Collection #1 (see 1974). the 1978 Australian 3LP set Masterpieces (see 1978), the Japanese Mr. D's Collection #3 promo CD (see 1993), and the Capitol/EMI boxed set The Band: A Musical History (see 2005). All versions are as far as I know still in mono as originally recorded. Sadly, it does not appear on the B-side of a withdrawn CBS Spanish EP (see 1972), because the record was mispressed with It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry from Highway 61 Revisited instead!

R-0084-8 George Jackson - "Big Band" version, see 1971, also on the Australian 3LP set Masterpieces, see 1978

Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?: I am now positively informed that the version of Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window? in this set is in mono, and not the stereo version unavailable on commercial CD. The version available as on Masterpieces (1978) and Biograph (1985, remastered CD reissue 1997) and the 2001 Essential Bob Dylan/Ultimate Bob Dylan compilations is also from the original single and still in mono! The stereo version can only be found on a CBS stereo acetate (see 1965), the CBS Spanish 7" EP and single with Positively 4th Street (see 1972) had it in a mispressed version, not stereo as previously reported.

Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans.
