This page is part of a list of original releases by release date of international commercially-released regular stereo Dylan albums. They do not contain rarities or obscurities and are not eligible for the Searching For A Gem list. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo releases of regular albums are now listed here and no longer in the former yearly Promo sections. This title was one of the fifteen Dylan albums released in late 2003 as a hybrid CD/SA-CD. This is playable both in stereo on an ordinary CD player and in enhanced stereo on an SA-CD player or a DVD player that also plays SA-CDs (Sony's higher range models all do this). The US CD front before the hybrid SA-CD release had a
crop of the LP front photo, missing song titles, and the album title on
one line above the picture - very different from the European CD cover

Wil Gielen has an early 1990s copy of
the US release imported into Japan with an obi from the Shinseido record
store chain. The obi was added by the store to import US copies (which were
much cheaper than Japanese releases) to provide buyers with information in
Japanese. The CD is slightly different from the US
copy owned by Hans Seegers in that the "DIDP" number underneath the
catalogue number to the right of the centre hole is missing. The "DIDP" number
(Digital Identification Popular) is a code used by Sony DADC (Digital Audio
Disc Corporation) on CDs pressed in Terre Haute, IN, or one of their other
CD plants in the USA, from 1983 onwards (Classical CDs had "DIDC"). It's not
present on this CD, which probably means that it was either
manufactured by Sony in Japan, or at another US CD pressing plant under
contract from Columbia. The price on the obi of ¥1,408 has Japanese
characters meaning "excluding tax", which means it was imported into Japan

The 1980s release was the first release of this album on CD in Canada. The artwork is
the same as the US release. The front insert is a stapled 8-page booklet
with the "Some other kinds of songs" poems on the inside pages. Moise
Potié's 1990s copy looks identical apart from the detail that the 1980s CD
has "MADE IN CANADA" to the right of the centre hole whereas the 1990s CD
does not. Both CDs have "MADE AT SMC" (Sony Music Canada) at bottom centre below the writer

Both releases had a separate 32 page booklet. The front insert was folded to form a 24 page booklet. Fourth release: Sony Records SRCS 9242 (1 Feb 1997)- red obi with black/yellow/white text with price ¥1,600 ("Super 1600 Nice Price" series - ¥1,553 plus sales tax), this copy is still sealed. album sleeve without logos and
with the song titles in barely readable pale orange text. The rear CD
insert is plain except for the song titles, and the rest of the 8-page
front insert
reproduces the tracklist and the poems by Bob Dylan "Some Other Kinds
Of Songs...". The CDs were manufactured in Austria and distributed from Holland, where the inserts were printed. |

CBS 461013 2 was also released as a double-pack with Blood On The Tracks. The single CD release had a rear insert and disc itself that still say "Disc 2".
Columbia 467390 2 was released in the mid-1990s with a rear insert that said "Columbia CD 32034"! Columbia CD 32034 was released in the late 1990s with exactly the same inserts and this time the CD had the same catalogue number.

These CDs have a single front insert with the tracklisting
on the reverse - in the 1989 CBS release it's on card, and in the Columbia 1990s
releases it's paper. The 1989 CBS release is in the "Select" series, the 1990s Columbia release is in the "REDHOT" series. The third release is later than 1995, still in the "REDHOT" series, but with "SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT (AUSTRALIA) LIMITED" on the CD. The 2018 "Gold Series" release CD has a new catalogue number on the rear insert, but the CD and the front insert still have the original "465033 2". No Sony Music logo has been added on the rear insert, just a change to the barcode. |

This release is housed in a fold-out digipak and contains a CD version and
SA-CD versions in stereo and 5.1 surround sound. The inside of the digipak
has two unpublished pictures of Bob from 1964. There is an 16-page booklet with the original sleeve notes ("Some other kinds of songs... Poems by Bob Dylan") and more unpublished pictures of Bob from 1964. The SA-CD design reproduces the Columbia US "360º SOUND" stereo vinyl label used in 1964. The booklet for the Canadian releases has been printed in Canada. This release also has the sticker shown for The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan on the outside of the shrink-wrap. |

This hybrid SA-CD release of this album is in stereo only, not also in 5.1 surround sound as on the 2003 Columbia hybrid SA-CD release. There is also a Mobile Fidelity high quality recording released on heavyweight vinyl playing at 45RPM, which means that it is a 2LP set. The SA-CD comes in a folded card sleeve with a stapled booklet. It is a special limited edition but Manuel García Jara's copy is not numbered, so may be a promo. André Wilbers' copy is numbered "02990". It also has a Columbia catalogue number 8869726762.

Music MHCP 10002, which comes with a white obi with black, grey and
yellow text and price
¥2,520 (¥2,400 before tax). The release date
is "03-10-22" (22 Oct 2003). The original
release date is "64-5-1" (1 May 1964) and the withdrawal date is
04-4-21"
(21 Apr 2004). There is an 16-page stapled booklet in English and a 32-page stapled booklet in English and Japanese, as well as a double-sided hybrid SA-CD insert in Japanese. The copy shown is a promo, with a yellow numbered promo sticker on the rear of the digipak, and the text "SAMPLE LOANED" in the clear centre of the CD itself. The Japanese release comes in a card sleeve reproducing
the LP sleeve with an obi. Both the promo and the commercial releases
have the "DYLAN ALIVE '04" silver sticker with black text on the
shrink-wrap. Brian Clarke has found pictures online of
another sealed copy with the obi sideways and the "DYLAN ALIVE" sticker on
the rear. Wil Gielen's copy is a promo, with a numbered promo sticker on the rear of the card sleeve. It also has "SAMPLE LOANED" in red in the clear centre of the CD itself. The obi has price ¥1,890 (¥1,800 before tax) and release date "04-8-18" (18 Aug 2004). The original release date is shown as "64-5-1" (1 May 1964) and the withdrawal date as "05-2-17" (17 Feb 2005). There is an insert which folds out to a larger size. The promo CD has "SAMPLE LOANED" in red in the clear centre, missing from the commercial CD. |

This release is on a Blu-spec CD, an audio-only disc which is presumably
intended to be Sony's new high quality audio format. The copy shown is still
sealed, with a blue and white obi with price ¥2,500 (¥2,381 before tax). The
release date is shown as "09-8-26" (26 Aug 2009), the original release date
as "64-5-1" (1 May 1964) and the withdrawal date as "10-2-25" (25 Feb 2010).
It's not actually a Blu-ray disc as it says on the sticker, but it is made using Blu-ray

Sony Music in Austria for the Dutch newspaper "De Volkskrant" to mark Bob's

This massive set is the latest in a series of "Complete Columbia Album Collections" featuring artists such as Miles Davis, Charlie Mingus, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck and even Blue Oyster Cult. The CD version of the set includes 41 Dylan albums in card sleeves, 14 of which have been remastered for this project, plus a 2CD set of previously released non-album tracks entitled Side Tracks. The albums exclude all compilations and The Bootleg Series sets, but do include the deleted 1973 Dylan album, see 1973, and the extra 2CD set Side Tracks includes one side of the 1971 single George Jackson (Acoustic version), R-0085, see 1971. The set is therefore listed in 2013. The set also includes a hard cover book with extensive new liner notes and previously unseen photos.
All the CDs come in card sleeves. The European sleeves are made of thicker card than the US sleeves, but they are otherwise identical, so are not shown. The catalogue number on the sleeve is "88691924312JK4" plus "DISC 4". The CDs are different in detail, the US Another Side Of Bob Dylan CD has catalogue number "88691924312D4", whereas the European CD has catalogue number "88691924312-04". The European CD was made in the EU (probably Austria). The US and European copyright details are printed at the bottom of the Bob Dylan CDs, and round the circumference for The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan onwards, so I haven't shown them for the later CDs.

Thanks to Sonny Boy McFitzson for news that The Complete Album Collection will be released in Japan in four decade-related parts, with the intention to release them all in 2014. The first part, called Dylan '60s, will be released by Sony Music Japan on 26 Mar 2014. The Blu-Spec CD2 specification CDs come in card sleeves with printed inner sleeves and "SONY MUSIC" instead of "COLUMBIA" on the discs, which are numbered SICP 30471 to SICP 30481 (Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, not included in the US and European sets, is included here as SICP 30479). Side Tracks, to be released at the same time, is SICP 30519-20. All the sleeves will have orange top obis similar to the 2004 Japanese release in card sleeves. The 2013 remastered Another Side Of Bob Dylan will be SICP 30474 - more details will be added when available (this album was not one of those released in Blu-spec CD2 format in 2013). |
