This page includes all stereo releases of the 1967 album released in the UK
with a different tracklist from the US 1967 Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits
album (see International
Albums (Regular). It has been separated from
International Album Releases
(Dylan-only Compilations) 1960s because of the large number of releases. This album is
also included on the
1967
page because it contains rarities!
This page is still incomplete. If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to
existing entries, please let me know!
Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities -
see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the
dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

Vinyl and Tape Releases
"Greatest Hits" - stereo vinyl compilation LP, CBS SBPG 62847 (UK),
Mar 1967, re-released 1975; CBS 460907 1 (UK), 1988:
This album has the same serial number as the 1967 French release with the US
tracklist (see International
Albums (Regular). For the mono version of the album, see both
1967
and Mono Album Releases. It was released in at
least eight countries world-wide as well as the UK:
Greece, Holland, India, Israel, Italy, Kenya, New Zealand and Spain.
This release had a different front cover picture (by Jerry
Schatzberg) and a different tracklist from the US version - Positively 4th Street
is missing (which means that every track here had previously appeared on LP in
the UK), but is replaced by She Belongs To Me. (This swap was reversed on the
second Greatest Hits UK and US vinyl albums!) There are two additional tracks:
It's All Over Now, Baby Blue and One Of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later).
This UK tracklist is:
Side 1: Blowin' In The Wind (error with first guitar note missing, R-0251,
see 1967); It Ain't Me, Babe; The Times They Are
A-Changin'; Mr. Tambourine Man; She Belongs To Me; It's All Over Now, Baby Blue
Side 2: Subterranean Homesick Blues; One Of Us Must Know (Sooner Or Later)
(unfaded stereo version, R-0537, see 1967); Like A Rolling Stone; Just Like A Woman;
Rainy Day Women # 12 & 35 (unique 2:06 edit, R-0656, see 1967); I Want You
Whether the 1960s UK pressings actually contain R-0656 is now in doubt since
on my copy listed below Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 is the full album version at
4:35, despite being listed as 2:06 on the sleeve. Hans Seegers believes that
only the non-UK pressings of this album such as the Greek releases listed below
had the 2:06 edit!
The US tracklist is:
Side 1: Rainy Day Women # 12 & 35 (album version); Blowin' In The Wind;
Subterranean Homesick Blues; Like A Rolling Stone
Side 2: Positively 4th Street (1965 single); The Times They Are A-Changin'; It Ain't
Me, Babe; Mr. Tambourine Man; I Want You; Just Like A Woman

CBS SBPG 62847 (UK) - front scan by Hans Seegers (first release) |
Hans Seegers' first release copy has a laminated front sleeve with three
fold-over flaps, printed "STEREO"/arrows logos on the
front and rear of the sleeve, and the catalogue number is listed as "SBPG
62847" on the rear. The record shows the playing speed as "33" on both sides
and the songs are credited to "Blossom Music" and "B. Feldman" with
individual publishing dates. All songs on Side 1 are credited to "Blossom
Music" and on Side 2 tracks 1 and 3 are credited to "Blossom Music" while
tracks 2, 4, 5 and 6 are credited to "B. Feldman". There are no track
timings. |

On the Side 2 label, producer Bob Johnston's name is misspelled
as "Bob Johnson". This mistake was repeated on the labels of all the releases. The rear sleeve has the printer information at bottom left and
the CBS copyright information at bottom right. It was printed by Garrod &
Lofthouse Ltd. and has "GB" printed vertically at bottom right.

CBS SBPG 62847 (UK) - detail of rear, scan by Hans Seegers (first 1960s
release, printed by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.)
The two later sleeves have just "62847" as the catalogue number on
the rear sleeve. Gerd's second release copy has a white "STEREO"/arrows logo
sticker to the left of the CBS logo on the rear sleeve. The bottom of the
sleeves are completely different - the first and second releases have the
printer information at bottom left and the CBS copyright information at bottom
right. The first release sleeve was printed by Garrod &
Lofthouse Ltd. and the second and third sleeves were printed by Ernest J. Day &
Co., Ltd. All sleeves have "GB" printed vertically next to the spine at bottom
right.

CBS SBPG 62847 (UK) - front (second, third and fourth releases, my copy) |
The record of Gerd Rundel's second release copy
has matrix numbers: Side 1 - SBPG 62847 A2, Side 2 - SBPG 62847 B2. His Side 1
label is the same as the first release and has "33" as the playing speed, while his Side 2 label is the same as mine
below
with "33⅓" as the playing speed. All songs
on Side 1 are still credited to "Blossom Music" and on Side 2 tracks 1 and 3 are
credited to "Blossom Music" while tracks 2, 4, 5 and 6 are credited to "B.
Feldman". This time all tracks are shown as "è1966".
Again, there are no track timings.

My third release copy was bought in mid-1968 and has the same front sleeve
as the second release. The rear sleeve has a gold foil "Stereo" sticker to
the left of the CBS logo. The rear sleeve also has a text box about CBS
stereo records, shorter copyright information at bottom left, and printer
information at bottom right. The record labels show the playing speed at "33⅓".
All songs on Side 1 are still credited to "Blossom Music" and on Side 2
tracks 1 and 3 are credited to "Blossom Music" while tracks 2, 4, 5 and 6
are credited to "B. Feldman". This time all tracks are shown as "è1966".
Again, there are no track timings. My third release copy has matrix numbers:
Side 1 - SBPG 62847 A2, Side 2 - SBPG 62847 B1 (Henry V. Bell's copy has the
same numbers). |

The fourth release from 1968-69 has the same front sleeve as the second and
third releases, but a different rear sleeve with no stereo indication and no
printer's name. On the record labels the credit to Blossom Music has been
replaced by Kinney Music. All songs on Side 1 are credited to "Kinney Music
Ltd." and on Side 2 tracks 1 and 3 are credited to "Kinney Music Ltd." while
tracks 2, 5 and 6 are credited to "Big Ben Music Ltd." and only track 4
remains credited to "B. Feldman & Co. Ltd.". Again all tracks are shown as "è1966"
and there are no track timings. The playing speed is again "33⅓".

CBS SBPG 62847 (UK) - front scan
by Hans Seegers (1970s release) |
Thanks to Hans Seegers for the information that this vinyl
album was reissued in 1975 with orange/yellow record labels (same catalogue
number). These later releases do not contain R-0656 - Rainy Day Women #12 &
35 is now the album length of 4:35 (the track time on the rear sleeve is
still 2:06!). "STEREO" is printed on both the front and rear sleeves. All
songs on the Side 1 record label are credited to "Kinney Music Ltd." and on
Side 2 tracks 1 and 3 are credited to "Kinney Music Ltd." while tracks 2, 5
and 6 are credited to "Big Ben Music Ltd." and only track 4 remains credited
to "B. Feldman". There are no copyright dates
and the track timings are included, showing track 5 on Side 2 as
4:35. |

This 1970s edition of the album was released at least twice because
there are two different label designs - the most obvious difference is that the
artist name and album title are on either two lines or just one. Thanks to
Patrick Helfrich for the alternate label scan.

CBS S 62847 (UK) - front scan
by Hans Seegers (1985 release) |
The album was re-released in 1985 with the
catalogue number shortened to "S 62847". The front sleeve was the same as
the 1970s releases and the sleeve was again printed by Shorewood Packaging
Co. Ltd. It was first released with orange/yellow CBS labels and then with
red CBS labels. There are two variants of the orange/yellow labels: the first (a
copy owned by Paul Shenton pictured in "Isis" magazine #151) has "MADE IN
ENGLAND" at bottom centre. The second (Ian
Woodward's copy) has "MADE IN ENGLAND" moved from bottom
centre to the right label edge as part of the circumference text. |

As the 1970s releases, on the Side 1 record label all tracks are
credited to "Kinney Music" and on Side 2 tracks 1 and 3 are credited to "Kinney
Music Ltd." while tracks 2, 5 and 6 are credited to "Big Ben Music Ltd." and
only track 4 remains credited to "B. Feldman". The track timings are included, showing track 5 on Side 2 as 4:35,
although it's still listed as 2:06 on the rear sleeve.
The songs all have a copyright date of "è
1966" below the catalogue number. The second orange/yellow labels and the red labels have an almost identical layout except
that on the red labels there is CBS copyright information where "MADE IN
ENGLAND" used to be at bottom centre on the first orange/yellow labels.

The album was re-released in 1988, again with red CBS labels and a new
catalogue number - "460907 1" (the first six digits are the same as the
catalogue number used today for the UK remastered CD release). There are now
no "STEREO" indications on the front or rear sleeves and no
printer name. On the Side 1 record label all tracks are credited to "Warner
Bros. Music Ltd." and on Side 2 all tracks except track 4 are credited to
"Warner Bros. Music Ltd.", while track 4 is still credited to "B. Feldman & Co.
Ltd./EMI". There are no copyright dates and
the track timings are included, showing track 5 on Side 2 as 4:35 (the track
time on the rear sleeve is still 2:06!).

CBS S 62847 (Italy) - front scan by Hans Seegers (both releases) |

CBS S 62847 (Italy) - rear scan by Hans Seegers (both releases) |
This album was released twice, first in Mar 1967, and then
in mid 1967, with the same sleeve but with different record labels. The
sleeve was printed in Italy and has two folded-over flaps. The album is
described as "STEREO MONO" on the sleeve. The record has orange CBS labels.
The first release has "STEREO MONO" and "33" as the playing speed, the
second release has "STEREO" plus the arrows logo and "331/3"
as the playing speed. Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, track 5 on Side 2, is listed
as 2:06 on the sleeve as the UK albums, but the track is listed on the
record label as the album version at 4:35, so R-0656 (see above) is not
present. Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans. |

CBS S 62847 (Israel) - front scan by Nol Grint |
This LP is again a version of the UK release. The rear sleeve
this time has only two album
pictures. Bob Johnston's name is misspelled "Johnson". The record has
orange CBS labels with "MADE IN ISRAEL" in English and Hebrew. Bob
Johnston's name is again misspelled "Johnson" on Side 2.

CBS S 62847 (NL) - front scan by Hans Seegers (all 1969 releases) |
This version of the album with the UK Greatest Hits
tracklist was made in Holland. The rear sleeve is different from the UK
releases and shows 12 Dylan albums, including the three Holland-only
Greatest Hits albums and ending with Nashville Skyline. There were three releases of the album in 1969,
the first has nothing to the left of the CBS logo at top right of the rear
sleeve, the second has a "B" in a circle, and the third has a "U" in a
circle. All the record labels were the same. The oddity is that Rainy Day
Women #12 & 35, track 5 on Side 2, is listed as 2:06 as the UK albums, but
the track is the album version at 4:29, so R-0656 (see above) is not
present! Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans. |

CBS S 62847 (Spain) - front scan by Hans Seegers (1970 & 1975 releases) |
This Spanish stereo LP is a
release of the album with the 1967 UK Greatest Hits tracklist. Both
the sleeves and records were made in Spain. The song titles are translated
into Spanish on the front and back of the sleeve and on the labels. The 1970
rear sleeve shows ten albums by contemporary CBS artists. The record has
orange CBS labels and was made for CBS by Fonogram S.A. of Madrid. The album
title is translated on the labels as "GRANDES EXITOS". This release is
extremely rare as very few were manufactured. The 1975 rear sleeve shows
eight albums by contemporary CBS artists. The record now has orange/yellow
CBS labels and was made by Discos CBS S.A. Madrid. The album title is
missing. The 1978 release has a
fully laminated sleeve. The 1978 rear sleeve this time shows eight albums by
Spanish artist Roberto Carlos. The 1978 record again has orange/yellow CBS labels with
a different label design and stamped matrix numbers: Side 1-
62847
A+, Side 2 -
62847
B0. The album title is still missing. The 1981 sleeve is the same
apart from the date printed at bottom right. The 1981 record again has
orange/yellow CBS labels, this time with a design similar to the 1975
design. The album title is still missing.

"Greatest Hits" - stereo cassette, CBS 40-62847 (NL), 1974:
Phil Beale has a UK cassette copy of this album, CBS 40-62847, which has the
same track listing as above, although She Belongs To Me on Side 1 and Just
Like A Woman on Side 2 are reversed. The surprise is that Like A Rolling
Stone on Side 2 is the live version from the 1969 Isle of Wight Festival
from Self Portrait, not the expected studio version from Highway
61 Revisited. There's no indication on the cassette insert. Hans Seegers
informs me that this variant, obviously a CBS mistake, is known to
collectors.
These cassettes have three rarities including a unique edit of Rainy Day
Women #12 & 35 (2:06). Full
details are therefore in 1967 with the other rarity
entries for this album.
Thanks to Nol Grint and Phil Beale for information and scans.

These Greek LPs have the 1967 UK cover and the UK 12-song
tracklist. Like the UK release, it contains a unique edit of Rainy Day Women #12 & 35
(R-0656, see above). This album was re-released in 1988 as CBS 4630881.

Hans Seegers (1975 release)
Hans Seegers reports the front cover is "a bad copy of the 'Leonardo
Da Vinci' cover"! Roland Born's copy has the 1978 sleeve but
still has the 1975 labels.
The rear cover shows two contemporary Dylan albums - The Basement Tapes
and Desire. This was the same on the 1988 release - the cover was not
changed. One of the producer credits on cover and Side 2 label is incorrectly
shown as "Bob Johnson"
instead of Bob Johnston.
The 1975 record has orange/yellow CBS labels with
matrix numbers: Side 1- 62.847-A (written), Side 2 - 01-62847-1B-1 HP-GRIEKENLAND
(stamped). "Griekenland" is Dutch for Greece, and shows the album was sourced
from Holland. Hans Seegers has a second copy with identical labels and sleeve
but without the "Griekenland" in the matrix numbers which was made in Greece.
The 1978 record also has orange/yellow labels, this time with a new text layout.

Columbia 463088
1 (Greece) - front scan by Arie de Reus (US tracklist) |
The
1988 record has a new catalogue number, CBS 4630881, red labels with a white CBS
logo, the same text layout as the 1978 labels, and the same matrix numbers: Side 1 - 62.847-A (written), Side
2 - 01-62847-1B-1 HP-GRIEKENLAND (stamped). The "Bob Johnson" error is repeated
on the new Side 2 label.
To
confuse matters, this album was released as Columbia 463088 1 in the 1990s
with the US tracklist (see International
Albums (Regular). The song titles are now missing from the front sleeve!

Thanks to Gino Galvez for pointing out this remastered edition no longer
contains R-0251, the version of Blowin' In The Wind with the first guitar
note missing. I've confirmed this by comparing my copy of 460907 9 with the
version on the remastered release of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. The CD release also no longer
contains R-0656, here Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 is the full album version at
4:37. It still contains One Of Us Must Know (Sooner Or Later) - R-0537,
the unfaded
stereo version (thanks to Roger Ford for confirming that this CD is the
only place this specific version can be found today). The front insert
restores the tracklist.
There are four variants of this release. The
1997 release (my copy) has no catalogue number on the upper right of the
rear insert, the gold/black sticker on the front of the clear jewel case, and
bar-code
"5 99746
09791". Keith Schweiger has two copies, also with no catalogue number
at top right of the rear insert and the same bar-code. One has "Sony Music"
at the bottom left of the rear insert, the other doesn't have "Sony Music"
but has the catalogue number above the bar code on the right. Keith's first
copy has the same front sticker as mine, the second copy has two front
stickers, one with "Nice Price" and the other advertising the 30th
Anniversary of the album, 1967-1997. The 1997 releases have an extended
booklet with the Columbia "Nice Price" catalogue. The 2000 re-release has the catalogue number on the
upper right of the rear insert
(not shown), no front stickers, and bar-code "5 99746 308896". All the discs
are the same except for different matrix numbers.
This album was also released with the same catalogue number in a Best Of The Best Gold
edition in 1998, see below.
Thanks to Hans Seegers and Bill Hester for information and to Keith Schweiger for
further information and scans.
